Description of Issue
I have the following setup:
Fiber Optic Modem → Eero 6 → Netgear GS105 Switch connected via ethernet.
My Nucleus and a Mac Book Air are connected to the Netgear Switch via ethernet cable. In this configuration, the Nucleus is accessible from all devices. Now, if I unplug the Mac Book Air (Monterey) and connect via WiFi, suddenly the Nucleus cannot be found anymore from any device. Even the Mac Book Air cannot connect to the web interface anymore. Somehow, the MacBook Air must interfere with the networking, but I have no idea how and why, and what to do. As soon as I connect the MBA back to the switch, everything is fine again.
I used to have Roon Server installed on the MBA before I bought the Nucleus, but I’ve since deleted it. This is pretty vexing.
Most likely, the Eero is not in bridge mode, and created a separate network, i.e., subnet, using a different IP range. All devices must be on the same subnet as your Roon core.
Thank you. While this made my WiFi unusable, it also did make me realize that I probably should have my cable modem do the DHCP, not the Eero.
The temporary fix is to plug the Nucleus into one of my Eero’s, instead of the switch.
I’d advocate putting the ISP router into modem mode, only connecting the Eero to it, and then hang everything else off the Eero including the switch. Then let the Eero take care of routing, DHCP etc. etc.
Well, that’s what I thought too initially, but it is the setup that is causing trouble. Maybe it’s the switch, because I also had trouble with a Hue Bridge plugged into the switch, and had to plug in the Hue Bridge into another Eero for it to work reliablly.
