Description Of Issue
Hi there,

I tried to use the Nucleus on my Rotel 1570 via HDMI. I can’t get any sound. I mapped the channels correctly and also switched off MQA (not sure if the Rotel is able to work with MQA). I also lowered the sampling rate down to 96kHz … nothing.

Any ideas?

I assume you enabled the HDMI connection in your Roon - Settings - Audio. I have a Nucleus with ethernet and HDMI connections to my Oppo 203 and they are enabled as two devices in Roon.

Hi Jim, yes I enabled the 2 outputs. Firmware is the newest and the Nucleus is working well.

Hi @Manfred_Blanz,

Have you selected the correct HDMI Zone in the Zone menu prior to starting playback?

Can you please try to plug in the HDMI cable from the Nucleus into a TV as a test just to ensure that audio output works?

Hi Noris, I will try that today. Thanks for the idea.

I tried with a TV and all works well. Seems that the Rotel has got an issue with HDMI audio. Video HDMI with sound works pretty good.

Hi @Manfred_Blanz,

Thanks for testing the TV and confirming the HDMI cable works. Many receivers won’t output audio if there is no video alongside it, can you try to connect the Nucleus to the Rotel via HDMI and then Rotel output to the TV via HDMI? If having the TV connected as a video output allows then you may want to look into “HDMI Dummy Plugs”, these can emulate an HDMI output as being connected.

Hi Noris,
whilst all is working well via the Primare NP5 I will leave it at this stage. I will contact Rotel if there is an HDMI update is available but if not it’s not a big problem. You’re right it seems that the Rotel only accept Audio with Video signal because all other items are working like Apple TV and Blue-Ray Player.
Thank you for your support that was very appreciated. Greetings Manfred

Hi @Manfred_Blanz,

Happy to hear we were able to get to the bottom of the issue!

As I mentioned you can also look into an HDMI Dummy plug which might help, we haven’t tested this in the lab, but something similar to this should help if there is no HDMI update - Headless Display Emulator.
