Nucleus+ is stone dead after power outage

Roon Server Machine

Nucleus+

Description of Issue

After a 10 min power outage my Nucleus+ was not recognized in the network anymore.
Roon is not able to find the IP. It’s not possible to ping and the internal webpage could not be accessed. There was no difference after I unplugged the power cable for 1 hour.

Connecting the Nucleus+ via HDMI to my TV gets only “No signal”.
Nevertheless the power light of the power switch and the light of the network plug are ON.

Is there anything I may test or reset ?

Please help, life without ROON is no life. :slight_smile:

Kind regards
M.

Any activity on the ethernet lights during startup?
Did you reboot the Nucleus with the HDMI connected to the TV to see if there was anything happening?

Can you get into your router and see if it “sees” the Nucleus? It might have given it a new IP address after the power outage?

connect a monitor to HDMI1. press the power switch (to switch it off). Wait 10 seconds. The light on the switch should now be out. If not, wait another 10 seconds. Press the power switch again, the light should go on, and look at the screen.
At the end of the boot process you should see an ip adress that “belongs” to your nucleus.
Using the app on your mobile/ipad/whatever go to that ip address using your browser and sign on to your nucleus. After that, you will be able to play music again. Hope that helps.

Unfortunately the only thing I see is “No Signal” :frowning:

@ bearFNF
Thanks for reply.
The ethernet light is blinking during it’s switched off. It is shortly off, when Nucleus+ is turned on and after 2 seconds it’s blinking again.
During HDMI-reboot theres nothing else, only “no signal”.
The router shows no active Nucleus+ and also no new system with unknown generic name.

It may be that the m.2 SSD has failed and needs replacing. One way to test this is to remove the SSD and then power on the Nucleus. If you now get messages on an attached monitor, e.g. a (possibly brief) display such as the ones below, then it is the SSD that is at fault. The Support team can then give you instructions on the procedure for replacing the SSD and getting you back up and running again.

Good idea. But unfortunately “No Signal” on both, HDMI A and HDMI B.

OK, thanks for trying. Let’s wait and see what @support can suggest.

Edit: hang on a moment - I asked you to remove the m.2 SSD - your photo shows that you have disconnected the 2.5" SSD; and not removed the m.2 SSD.

@Geoff_Coupe

Hey, that“s why I made the picture :slight_smile:

NOW I‘ve seen the bold ROON (your 1st photo) but it did not come (I waited 10 minutes+) to your 2nd screen screen shot.

So what to do now? Order a 250gb M.2 SSD and hope to get a detailed restore instruction?

Thx :slight_smile:

Right, so we’ve confirmed that it is the m.2 SSD that needs replacing.

Note that you’ll need a USB drive for this process that you can connect to a computer, and then the Nucleus.

The first thing you’ll want to do is purchase a new SSD. 250GB is more than enough.

After that, you’ll need to format the SSD. Follow this help article you can find here for next steps. Start from step #3 :

Essentially, you’ll be flashing the ROCK OS to a USB drive, and using it to boot and format the new SSD in your Nucleus.

Once you’ve successfully flashed ROCK onto the new SSD, keep your Nucleus online and go here to choose option D in the typeform:

@ Geoff_Coupe

m.2 SSD is ordered, so I will come back here (hopefully) with a success report, but I fear it’ll be another request for support :wink:

Believe it or not, I bought a sinfully expensive Nucleus to avoid those PC tasks and now I’m back again in exact these activities :wink:

Thanks a lot for now, I’ll get back to you later

Well, at least it’s an appliance that is repairable instead of an expensive paperweight… Good luck. :slightly_smiling_face:

@Jim_F

Is it what Geoff wrote …

Or an additional task?

Jim - Support have moved to using the Typeform to request the upgrade. @Matthias_Goetze will request the upgrade via this channel rather than posting here…

No additional task necessary. Use the Typeform I gave the link to.

Hi @Matthias_Goetze,
Did you have any issues working your way through the typeform?

@ daniel

What do you mean with “typeform”?

The link I gave you takes you to a webpage that gives a number of options to choose. The webpage has been created by the Typeform system. Choose option D as I said earlier…

@daniel @Geoff_Coupe

Ah, OK. I will tell, when I went through.

@Geoff_Coupe

What I’ve done:
I flashed an USB drive and plugged it into the Nucleus USB port
I replaced the m.2 SSD
I connected a keyboard to the other USB port
I connected HDMI A to the TV
I rebooted the Nucleus while pressing F10 on the keyboard
I selected the Flash Drive as Boot drive and pressed ENTER
result: “Insert proper boot device and restart the system”

I tried it with another USB drive I had prepared: same result
I tried it again with the first one: same result
I tried it a last time with the following result: “No Signal”, like yesterday
(I removed the SSD and startet: The bold ROON was displayed, like yesterday)

Did I kill the new SSD?
The balenaEtcher worked fine for preparing the Flash drive. Did I miss any action to make it bootable?

What can I do now? Replace the SSD again?

—-> I just tried again. I‘m back in the game with „Reboot and select proper boot device. Insert Boot Media in selected boot device and press key.“
Seems as the SW was only copied, but no boot drive was generated.
