Good morning, I recently purchase a Nucleus. No issues with 2 channel playback either from my attached HD or from Tidal HFi.
The problem is I am not able to play multichannnel files (FLAC or DSD) over HDMI to my Yamaha CX A5100. When playing a multichannel file from my HD:
The purple light comes but the option to select a playback strategy in the Device set up is not available
It would probably help the support team if you could post screenshots of the Device Settings for the HDMI channel. Go to Settings/Audio and click on the gears icon by the HDMI channel that you use to connect to your Yamaha. As an example, here’s what I see for my Denon AVR connected to my ROCK/NUC (a poor man’s Nucleus). First the Settings/Audio screen:
The Channel Layout menu is probably the key here. For my Denon (which is a 7.1 channel AVR), I chose the 7.1 dropdown. Your Yamaha is a 7.2.4 channel AVR - is there a corresponding menu option in that drop-down?
Thank you for the reply.
The screen options for multichannel are not available to me regardless of if the multichannel files is a FLAC or DSD file. Thank you for looking into this. Will
I have attached the screen shots from my System. The other screens showing multichannel options are not available.
Your Device Setup screen is actually a scrollable window - try clicking in it (on blank space) and scrolling down - that should reveal the “Show Advanced” button so that you can explore further.
This is often the case with Roon’s UI - scrollbars are normally invisible, until the window is made active by clicking in it or scrolling in it.
Can you please check the channel layout options as @Geoff_Coupe noted in the screenshot? This should be set to 7.1 in your case if the Yamaha supports 7.1 input.
I found one drop down box but not the one that allows you to select the number of channels. The one I found was for channel mapping. Would you please detail where to find that drop down option list?
I have attached a screen shot of the device settings for the Yamaha. As you can see the multichannel mixing drop box shows up but not the multichannel selection drop box.
What am I missing here? I have clicked in the blank spaces but the channel layout does not appear. The screen you show in your reply has never appeared.
The HDMI cable works perfectly to the Yamaha. When I play a DSD or HR FLAC the correct resolution is indicated on the Yamaha. All other hdmi inputs to the Yamaha playback up to Dolby Atmos and DTSX with no issues.
Thank you. Will
As you can see
Thanks for sending that additional screenshot. It looks like you may have the Airplay input selected in the screenshot, and Airplay does not support multichannel playback.
I’m looking over your initial Audio Zones screenshot:
The correct output that you want to configure here is the “Nucleus HDMI Output”, and this should have the additional options I mentioned above.
I would try opening up the Device Setup for the HDMI Output (as you have done in this screenshot) and then scrolling down past the Resync Delay area, and clicking on “Advanced”. Do you see the channel layout options there?
I was playing through the HDMI output on the Nucleus but for some reason the AirPlay option ( even though I was not using it) prevented the multichannel playback.
I disabled AirPlay as an option for the Yamaha and now it works perfectly. Thank you for your help.
