Hello @Alan_Chapin
Thanks for the clarification — I can see where the confusion is coming from, and this is actually a very common situation.
Your Nucleus is already detected and being used correctly as the Roon Server.
The reason you’re still seeing a name like “DESKTOP-…” in the UI is because:
- Your Roon database was originally created on your old PC
- When that database was later restored onto the Nucleus, the server hostname stored inside the database was carried over
So even though the UI shows a name that looks like a PC, the server you are actually connected to is:
- Your Nucleus One
- Running RoonOS
- With your external drive attached directly to the Nucleus
The name you see is just a label, not an indication that Roon is running on the PC.
Roon Nucleus does not appear like a normal PC in Windows Network Explorer. That’s expected.
To access it:
- Use the Roon app (which you’re already doing), or
- Use the RoonOS Web UI, or
- Access storage via SMB using the documented Roon instructions
There’s one more important piece to clear up, which explains the “This drive is not available” messages you’re seeing.
Your Roon database still contains folder paths from your old PC setup, for example:
DESKTOP-UV29F53 > BACKUPDRIVE
DESKTOP-UV29F53 > BACKUPDRIVE > ESCIENT BACK UP
Since Roon Server is now running on the Nucleus, those PC-local paths no longer exist, so Roon correctly reports them as unavailable.
To fix this cleanly, we need to know where your music files physically live now. Could you please confirm one of the following:
Option 1 — Music is already on the Nucleus
- The music files are on:
- the internal storage of the Nucleus, or
- an external USB drive connected directly to the Nucleus
In this case, you’ll want to:
- Go to Settings → Storage
- **Edit ** the old
DESKTOP-… folder entries
- Add the path to the correct folders that exist on the Nucleus instead
Option 2 — Music is still on the PC
- The music files are still stored on your PC, not on the Nucleus
In this case, the Nucleus cannot see PC folders directly.
You’ll need to:
- Share the music folder from the PC over the network (SMB)
- Edit it in Roon as a Network Share (using a network path like
\\PCNAME\Music)
- Make sure the PC is powered on whenever you want Roon to access that music
