Description of Issue

  1. Roon app on Mac, iphone, ipad takes 5 minutes to load with any information
  2. server seems to be scanning files every time I open app
  3. after several minutes of play the screen goes blank with the roon loading.buffering icon on screen. This also happens even if nothing is playing. just reloads for the next 5 minutes
  4. constantly losing connection to server - get the 'oops, somethings not right - can’t find your server select a new server" message. Then that goes away after 10-15 seconds and it reloads the home page (screen goes blank except roon loading logo) again taking a 5 minutes or so.

at this point the sever is unusable - can’t listen to music for more than 5 minutes at a time. This did not happen when the server was on my M1 Mac Mini.

@Keith_Winand, a fellow user here. Your N1 OS seems stable, running for >22 hours, but your Roon Server application is showing less than 1 minute of runtime in your screenshot. Can you restart your Roon Server application using its “Restart” button and see if that stabilizes your N1?

Also, where are your music files located?

Thanks for the reply - will restart. Believe I have before but will try again.

Music files are on a Synolgy NAS connected to same network. NAS and network are stable with no connection issues with other apps.

now that I look at this more per your suggestion on restarting the sever - it looks like the server is restarting very frequently. this would explain the low run time for the server as well as the constant reloading of the app info.

What might be causing this.

Thanks.

Not sure why the frequent restarts, maybe a manual restart will stabilize it. Please update if there is any change to the stability.

Yeah, tried that a few time but no real change.

It is restating constantly. I stopped and started the server and them came back 15 or so minutes later and it said up time was 6 minutes so must have restarted.

thanks.

One more thing to try before Support chime in… see if using the Reinstall button for the operating system will stabilise things…

Hi - Just an FYI so you know you are not alone…

  • I am a Nucleus Titan user and was previously a Nucleus+ user and this is a problem I have had intermittently over the last few years. It seems to come and go with software updates.
I too have my library 260k+ files on a Synology NAS on the same network. It has been particularly bad since I got the new Titan a few weeks ago. I have scrubbed my library for corrupted files which I had a few but it is still happening.
I have posted on a separate thread in here which Support has been looking into but not really getting anywhere. There is also someone in Europe posting the same issue.
I have been Roon user since about 2014.
Don’t want to highjack your thread but thought you should be aware.

I reinstalled the operating system as suggested but symptoms remain the same. seems like the server software restarts frequently and things take a long time to load.

thanks

Thanks, I appreciate the insight and information. Hopefully support will figure this out soon or my Nucleus One is going back and I will run the server again from my mac Mini. This is very frustrating.

If you hear anything please be sure to cross post here.

Mini power dips possibly?

My NUC is set to restart on power resume

no, don’t think that is it - it shows that power up time is continuous from the last restart it’s just that the server software restarts all the time, like every 5 minutes.

What is the size of your library? You might be running out of RAM if it’s a decent size. Or your ssd has a fault. But it sounds like RAM as Roon will just crash on RoonOS when it runs out. A large library when analysing will consume a lot of memory. If you can indicate how many albums/tracks you have this might help narrow the issue down. This includes streaming not just local stuff as it all contributes to Roons memory usage.

not huge don’t think. don’t think this is past the upper limits that Roon specifies.

At this point I think there is just something wrong with the box and I need a new one.

It’s still at the upper levels and given Roons habit of gobbling up RAM I would take their number as being under ideal circumstances. Considering my library of just under 34k is currently taking up 4.7gb of ram on my Linux server machine, I have 16gb and N1 only has 4gb available. I don’t believe ROCK is any more efficient here. So it may be a factor. You will have to wait and see what support says I guess. But I know Rock will just crash if it runs out of RAM.

Thank you for the reply. When you say crash to you mean the server or the OS? My OS stays up and running it’s just the server that constantly restarts.

If this is in fact the case, the One is not for me and it needs to go back. This is not a good product for any moderate music library apparently. I don’t consider myself a power user, just casual and have accumulated a fair amount of files over the years.

For $500 I would have expected better. Sad.

Roonserver I believe but it might be the whole thing. It might be something else like a bad ssd though.

I should also say, the server restarts when I’m not even using the app on any devices. I have the system status page up and check it frequently and the server software up time is never more than 10 minutes and frequently much less. The OS run time show cumulative time the box has been on but server software always restarting.

Can you check the Roon logs to see if any clues? Is it running any identification processes when it starts up as this will consume a lot of resources?

where can I find them?
