· I have a Mac mini and a roon nucleus one. I tried to set up the nucleus one but I could not so I saw where you said I could set up the software on my Mac and then activate the nucleus one. So I activated the roon software on my Mac mini and it works fine. All the cds stored on the Mac mini are accessible through roon and play, etc.. The nucleus one is plugged in to my stereo system through an hdmi cable and into my network through a cat5 cable but I cannot get my Mac mini to recognize an Ethernet connection. (I know you sent me a cat 6 wire is what you sent me and I plan to go buy a long enough cat 6 wire when the sun comes up but I imagine that cat 5 wire s not the source of my Ethernet connection problem, perhaps a throughput speed problem.) I suspect that I do not have the correct numbers or settings plugged into my Mac mini OS. I have tried altering various settings in the Ethernet settings on my Mac mini using the info from the RoonOS web UI page but I am unsuccessful in establishing an Ethernet connection. I note that the small yellow/orange light next to the Ethernet port on the back of the nucleus one blinks rapidly so I gather the nucleus one is making a good connection to my home network. The cat5 wire runs directly into my home network interface and it seems that the nucleus one is recognized by the roon software on my Mac mini since, among other things, the section on the Roon OS webUI sub category Internal Music Storage notes a 2000GB WDC serial # xxxxxx (which I take to be identifying information for the 4 TB Western Digital SSD I installed in the nucleus one when I first received it-I don’t know why it only recognizes 2TB of the 4TB but that is not my main concern now). As you can imagine, I did not buy this device to play music through my computer but to replace my Olive Opus 4 in my living room stereo. Please help me. Thank you.
Thanks for the detailed information. The good news is that your Nucleus One is actually connected to the network correctly! The fact that you can access the RoonOS Web UI page (where you saw the serial number) proves that the Cat5 cable is working perfectly and the device is online.
You do not need to change any Ethernet settings in your Mac’s operating system. The Mac mini does not need to “mount” the Nucleus like a hard drive; the Roon app simply needs to connect to it.
Here is how to switch control to the Nucleus:
Open the Roon app on your Mac mini.
Go to Settings -> General.
Click the Disconnect button next to your current Core (the Mac mini).
On the "Choose your Roon Core" screen, you should now see the Nucleus One. Click Connect. Probably after this you’ll have to unauthorize the Roon Server hosted by your mac (because you are switching to Nucleus).
Regarding the SSD (2TB vs 4TB): Once you have successfully connected to the Nucleus as your Core, please leave the device powered on and connected to the internet.
This will allow our servers to pull an automatic diagnostics report from your unit. I will then review the system logs on my end to see exactly how the drive is partitioned and help you resolve the capacity issue without you needing to guess.
I have written to you several times without a reply. I will try again.
I successfully disconnected This Mac as my Roon Server. I think I was successful in connecting my nucleus one to my home network but I can’t be sure.
I am now back at a screen that only has one connection option, to my Mac. I see no way to access my Roon software. What is going on? Is there a live Roon person or am I talking to people who are not Roon employees?
We usually reply in the thread so please post your questions here.
Regarding the problem: Do we understand correctly that you power up your Nucleus and connect to the network and your mac does not see it as option to connect ?
In such a case, can you please check in your Router admin panel IPs of your mac and nucleus and confirm them here ? They you have the same first 3 octetes ( http://192.168.1.xxx
f.i). In case they don’t look the same it means they’re in different networks.
In case they are the same or you can’t obtain IP of nucleus please confirm .
I have now responded to two different emails with lengthy, detailed replies only to receive a message that my reply was not delivered. This is extremely frustrating!
Can you or someone else please call me. My telephone number is {moderated]
Sorry to hear you’ve had difficulties responding to your support thread! Do you reply directly on discourse itself, or via email?
We unfortunately do not offer phone support at this time - Roon Technical Support is handled via the community here, so you’re in the right spot.
A follow up test for you:
Completely outside of Roon - can you access your router settings? See if you can find a devices list - and check to see if your Nucleus shows within your router settings.
Confirm your Nucleus is in the same local subnet as your other devices on your network.
When you disconnected, and Roon took you to your ‘choose your Roon Server’ screen, did you see your Nucleus?
I’d reboot your router and all devices within your network chain (see if you can set up a direct ethernet connection from your Nucleus to your primary router) and let me know if this helps.
What is the email address to which you are responding? Have you tried navigating to this thread on Roon Community and responding directly there, instead of via email?
If you’d like to discuss options for a refund, you can get in touch with our accounts team directly by opening your Roon Accounts page and selecting “contact us” and selecting the relevant option. Our accounts team will promptly reach out.
However, we can almost certainly resolve the issue you’re encountering here.
Can you please try pasting the content from your last message here, if it’s by chance still saved in your email outbox?
Let’s also ensure, for due diligence, that the Mac Mini hasn’t flagged the Nucleus as a security risk. In your System Settings on the Mac, navigate to Privacy & Security → Local network and toggled on permission for Roon.
We will watch closely for your response. Please try responding directly on Roon Community and not to the email notification.
We’re pinging this thread since we haven’t seen any response. Diagnostics indicate that your RoonServer or another device associated with your account has recently been active. Please let us know if we can assist further.
Specifically, please let us know if you’ve had a chance to try toggling Local Network access for Roon in your MacOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network. Based on the symptoms you originally reported this simple fix might resolve the problem.
We’ll monitor for your response here - please reply here on Roon Community directly rather than replying to the email notification you might receive from Discourse.
On my Mac mini, going through System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network I find both Roon and RoonServer are enabled. I still cannot get my Roon device to be connected via the ethernet connection.
I turned off the two tabs for Roon and Roonserver, shut down my computer, restarted it, turned the two tabs back on and restarted Roon. Roon opened in a screen with all of my albums on my Mac mini. I eventually found my way to Settings-General and the top of that screen has a box headed ROON SERVER. The only device in the box is This Mac with my sign in info and three other buttons: Disconnect, Logout and View account info.
Am I in the right place to find my Nucleus?
When you are in your Roon Settings > General - click the ‘x disconnect’ button. This will then prompt you to pick a new Roon Server machine - do you see your Nucleus under the list of devices?
Make sure the Nucleus is powered on and connected directly to your primary router via ethernet. We’ll be awaiting your reply!
Clicking Disconnect takes me to a screen that says Connect to your Roon Server and the only option is “This Mac”. I then clicked on the language at the bottom that says, “Configure Roon OS Devices and the middle of the screen has “Searching for Roon OS Server and a semi-circle and three vertical lines expanding and contracting. My Nucleus is turned on and the Ethernet cable is plugged in to the Nucleus. There is an intermittently blinking yellow light where the Ethernet cable plugs into the Roon.
It has been 6 days since I last responded to a request from you in my attempts to get SOMEONE to help me get my Nucleus One running. If I do not have this resolved by the close of business today, I will box my unit up and send it to the address on your invoice.
Thanks for giving that another try, and thanks for sticking with us. The best path forward would be to systematically rule out the most likely causes.
As a first thing, could you please check whether the same behavior occurs when connecting from multiple remotes? For example, could you please try connecting to your Nucleus using another Android, iPhone, a Windows machine or a Mac? This would help us determine whether the issue is isolated to a single control device or the issue lies with the Roon Server (the Nucleus).
Next, please confirm that the Nucleus and your Mac are connected to the same router and on the same network subnet. This helps ensure there’s no network segmentation or secondary router interfering with discovery and communication. As for the router aspect, I would check your networking gear to see if there is another physical router. You can find out if the Nucleus and the Mac are on the same subnet if they have the same IP address except for the last 3 digits.
Please let us know the above when possible, thank you!
I have tried to log onto Roon with my iPad. It has been searching for Roon OS devices for an hour with no success.
As an aside, after many hours of Roon searching for OS devices on my Mac mini, I now have a screen headed “Roon OS Devices” and below that “Nucleus One” with an address of 10.0.1.2 and a button that says “Done”.
Is this my Nucleus One?
It is clickable. Should I click on it?
Should I click on the “Done” button?
What should I do next?
I have no idea how to find out if my Nucleus is on the same network subnet as my Mac mini. I can tell you that for 17 years I had an Olive Opus No. 4 hardwired into my home network and the connection never failed. I have the same ethernet wire now plugged into my Nucleus. As I have written on more than one occasion, the light where the ethernet wire enters the back of the Nucleus blinks intermittently.
