· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices
Describe the issue
I baught Nucleus One a month ago(MAC : 10FFE00ED456 , and set up well with my external HDD(5TB). But a few days ago, Nucleus One doesn't recognize HDD. When I install One first time a month ago, everything was OK. - restore doesn't work(I setup restore location to HDD) - setup->storage->add folder . but nothing on the screen "choose music storage folder".
Thanks for writing in, and sorry to hear about your external drive issues!
We’re not seeing any Nucleus tied to your account, could you please use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Server from your Nucleus logs to our File Uploader?
With that, as another step in troubleshooting, if you disable the external drive and test it on another machine, like your Windows 11, do you have any issues accessing it?
If NTFS and it was abruptly powered off, it may be marked at “broken”, in which case RoonOS will then ignore it.
If this is the case, to recover plug the drive into a Windows PC and run chkdsk /f against the associated drive letter.
That said, going forwards, personally I would re-format this external drive exFAT (as recommend by Roon) but of course you would have to reload all your music file back on to it as formating wipes the drive clean.
If it’s already ExFat, I’d still plug it into a PC to see if it can be read by a different device.
Thanks for the update! Sorry for not providing more specific instructions for gathering Nucleus logs
Almost! You should be able to connect over your network:
Using your Windows PC, open File Explorer and navigate to \\NUCLEUSONE\Data and use Guest as the username and password. You should then see the RoonServer folder.
From there, click into the RoonServer folder, and you’ll see a ‘Logs’ folder.
Zip up the entire Logs folder - On Windows, Right Click → choose Send To → Compressed Zipped Folder
Rename the zip file to include your Community username, name, or your email address. Please don’t send your logs over as logs.zip
Send us a link to the zip file - The easiest way to do this is to upload the logs to our Logs Upload Server and let the support staff know you did so.
It sounds like the chkdsk /f resolved the issue and the drive is now working again? This issue occurs when there is an abrupt power cut to the drive and/or the drive is not safely removed (removed while RoonOS still accessing it). We have an investigation ticket on how we can improve this behavior, but at the time being, it is best to power off your Nucleus before removing the drive and to be aware of any power outages that can stop the drive from suddenly being accessed.
I tried several times power off/on and power plug of Nucleus One off/on with HDD, and check with Roon app to see Nucleus One recognize HDD, but it didn’t recognize HDD like before.
And as you guided me to see logs, connected to Roon One by notebook PC and tablet with 172.30.1.82, then it show me some set/reset info. But when I type ROONONE\Data, PC didn’t find. Show me Wrong…
I tried with USB cable from Notebook to Nucleus One, but Notebook didn’t show me anything. Notebook didn’t recognize Nucleus One.
Hi @okhyeon_kim,
Thanks for following up with us. Were you able to get the Nucleus to recognize the HDD by changing the path from ROONONE to NUCLEUSONE? Looking forward to your update!
This is expected - connecting via USB won’t help you access logs.
Can you provide a more detailed step by step on how you’re attempting to access the data folder?
NTFS can be flakey, so if you can, temporarily move your local library to a separate location and reformat the drive to ExFat. This is a much more stable drive format for you Nucleus, and will likely help with your issues.
There is no mention of your network setup, and how your Nucleus is connected to your primary router. As a first step, can you please setup a direct ethernet connection between the two, and reboot your router? See if that helps stabilize your Tidal connection.
The internet in my house is connected from the home router to the TV set-top box via a LAN cable, and the Roon Server is also connected to this with a LAN cable. I use Roon by connecting my tablet or notebook to the router (with the same SSID) that Nucleus is connected to via Wi-Fi using the Roon app.
When I connect a 5TB HDD to USB, the LED light on the HDD turns on.
Tidal sync is working again. I searched for songs in Roon and added them to a playlist, and the playlist on Titan was also updated.
What do I need to do in Roon to sync with Tidal?
Things that are still not working:
Storage->Add folder is not working. The songs on the HDD.
The backup function is not working. I bought it a month ago and specified the backup location on an external HDD during setup.
These two functions were working when I first bought it a month ago, but they stopped working about a week ago.
As you suggested, I tried turning off the Roon Server power and then connecting the HDD, but it had no effect.
LOG file: I can’t find \\NUCLEUSONE\Data in the notebook’s file explorer.
When I enter the router IP 172.30.1.83 in the file explorer, a System Status screen appears with menus like Operating System: Reinstall, Server Software: Restart, Roon Database Reset, Tailscale Sign in, etc.
This is a bit confusing - are you still having issues with Tidal? Keeping your Roon Settings>Services>Tidal account logged in and enabled is all you need to do to keep Tidal synced with your Roon account.
If you plug the external drive into your Windows 11 machine, are you able to access it without issue?
Can you please share a screenshot? Your external drive, if plugged in via USB, should appear under your list of storage locations.
If you check your router settings > devices list, do you see your Nucleus there?
Open File Explorer>Network on your Windows PC - what do you see?
Can you bypass the TV set-up box and connect your Nucleus directly to your router?
