· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices
Describe the issue
Hello, I purchased the Nucleus One and have managed to install an SSD, format and get my music library transferred over. Connected to my Marantz SR8015 via an HDMI cable to the "CD" input of the receiver. Two issues 1. The display on my TV just shows some operating system text for the Nucleus rather than the album art, etc. 2. Even more annoying unlike when I used Airplay/HEOS to stream to the receiver, the Nucleus One won't turn the receiver on after I press play. Airplay/HEOS did turn on the receiver. It plays and the sound quality is better but it won't turn the receiver on. Hopefully there's a simple setting to be adjusted as almost any other device will turn on the receiver (e.g. Bluray player, CD player, etc). Any help or assistance greatly appreciated. I'm liking the device thusfar. Only complaint was that the internal SSD had to be formatted within the device and the music files had to be transferred with the SSD installed. Wasn't a huge deal and was much faster when I stopped using my laptop to transfer and moved to my main computer that has a gigabyte network adapter.
This is how it is intended, the HDMI video on the Nucleus only provides status messages. You can connect a “Now Playing” display as described here:
It’s probably up to the receiver whether HDMI wakes it from standby. There’s probably a setting for this on the receiver, I would guess. Unless there is some sort of protocol that the Nucleus might not adhere to, but I wouldn’t know.
I just checked and all the “trigger outs” for each hdmi input are set to on so I’m guessing that the Nucleus doesn’t have the “trigger” setting through HDMI. Be nice if someone from Roon could confirm this is the case so I won’t keep beating my head against a wall trying to get it to work.
It’s just odd that they can get one type of information to display and not another. I’ve gotten it to work via the link & the web browser on my TV, it’s just another hoop however. All in all I’m happy with the device thought the 100k track limitation has already been exceeded and I’ve only used 92% of the 8TB drive I bought for the unit. Seems to me the device should support far more tracks with this kind of space. I’ll concede that many of these tracks are mp3 from when I started ripping in the late 90s some being duplicates at this point. Will take some time to clean this up. Also happy to report that the Tailspin worked great to resolve any issues with Roon ARC.
Displaying text characters and graphics are totally different things that work completely differently. This would require adding a whole graphics stack to Roon OS with all additional complexities and failure modes. It can be done but it would be a major undertaking. (And would probably require additional RAM for many users).
There is no fixed limitation and it’s not so much a question of space. 100k tracks is probably what Roon Labs feels comfortable that should be working with good responsiveness in a wide range of library configurations.
With a benign library (mostly actual album releases that can be identified by Roon), you can probably add much more, but this would change if your library consisted of, e.g., mostly single tracks, bootlegs that aren’t in Roon‘s metadata databases, or classical boxes with hundreds of CDs and thousands of credits.
Others are also correct in their statements with plugging the Nucleus to a monitor directly via HDMI.
Both your requests would be excellent to add to our Feature Suggestions category within community! i Hope you share them as I could see both being popular among other Roon users.
