Hello all, Now with the Roon Arc I am getting an internal error and unable to connect. No music is showing up on the arc app. It was very windy here today and no music apps were working until the wind died down. Anyone know what the settings need to be on for connecting the N1 to an iPhone XR through car play via usb. Thank you again for all your help. Any pointers on how to get dsd working as well. Chris Peterson
Hi @chrispy90,
With Nucleus One this is quite simple. It has the Tailscale VPN built into it. Activating that and also setting it up on your phone should allow you to use ARC and play to your car’s speakers via USB. This article will walk you through the process.
Hello all, I am trying to figure out how to get my iTunes on my Mac mini to the Nucleus One and possibly upgrade some songs to whichever dsd would work best with the Nucleus One and a Astell and Kern Kann Max Dac sending music through my iPhone XR to Roon arc through a usb through my car play infotainment system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Chris Peterson
Hello, Tailscale VPN not working on Roon Nucleus UI or Roon Arc. It does turn on and off with a toggle on the app on my phone but does nothing when I click on Tailscale through Nucleus UI and does not turn off port forwarding as an option either. Any help would be much appreciated. Also if my ssd Samsung hard drive shows up at 100% but still says format does that mean I still need to format even though I already formatted. Thank you. Chris Peterson
Did you try if ARC works on a cell network? That’s all Tailscale is supposed to do.
That’s normal, the port forwarding is just ignored. Not great UI, one has to say. But it’s all in the documentation, see step three here:
Where did you format it? See the documentation on formatting
Initialize/Format the Drive
The internal storage must be initialized/formatted using the Nucleus web administration interface before it can be used.
Hello Suedk, I understand all you are saying with the Tailscale except turning it on under Roon Nucleus UI where it does not let me choose it to turn on but it is on on my phone and shows on arc that it is connected to cloud and network so will try when I can spend some time configuring versus driving to work and just getting radio. Haha! As far as formatting the Samsung drive I formatted it when I first had the option under Nucleus UI but does it say format on the nucleus UI if it has been formatted? That was my question. Thanks again for your help. Chris Peterson
OK I am confused. You created a Tailscale account, then you click Sign In on the Nucleus web UI and then nothing happens? What should happen is that there are some prompts to sign into the Tailscale account:
OK, formatting it once in a Nucleus should be sufficient.
Before formatting, it says Not Ready and shows a Format button:
After formatting, it shows OK but there is still a Format button. (You might want to format it again, theoretically):

Hello Suedkiez, I have tried all options to connect tail scale under N1 UI and it says unable to use tail scale and I did reboot N1 and same scenario. Temporary turning off browser blockers was an option but not sure how to do that. I have my Mac Mini as a remote so I am going to put tail scale app on my Mac mini and hopefully everything will work eventually. Thank you, Chris Peterson
Interesting, but I have no idea why. It would help to know what it literally showed, as always screenshots would help. Or hopefully @daniel will know when and how this happens and what it means.
Depends on your browser and its settings. If you use Safari on the Mac, there is a list in the settings:
However, the settings in this case are per-website and I doubt that Tailscale is listed there. Doesn’t hurt to check, though. It’s more likely that content blockers get in the way if you use any third-party content blockers such as AdGuard or similar. In this case, I’d just temporarily deactivate AdGuard et al. completely.
Hello all, I am trying to connect everything using my iPhone XR and N1 UI for tail scale will not connect. I will download it on my Mac mini which should be a remote because I can see and access my music on my phone and on network through N1 because Sonos accesses music as well through iTunes on the Mac mini. So if I can download the tail scale app on Mac OS it might let me access Tailscale through iPhone IOS as well. Will check tomorrow. Thanks again for all your help. Chris Peterson
Hi @chrispy90,
Where is the Nucleus One connected to the network, relative to your two routers? Is it connected to the Cox or the Nighthawk unit?
We can see the Nucleus One switching back and forth between internet connections, preventing it from reliably reaching your upstream router and your other Roon devices.
If you want to use Tailscale on the Mac Mini in the meantime during troubleshooting, the simplest path would be to set up a temporary RoonServer on that machine. This will function as an ARC server until we’re done troubleshooting the Nucleus One’s network pathway.
Hello Conor, The Nucleus is hard wired into the router. Router and modem are in bridge mode so not sure why the N1 would be switching back and forth between networks. I have had some issues with old networks popping up on devices and I have tried my best to forget the old networks. Do not know why my old networks keep trying to connect to all my devices. Trying to solve that mystery as well. Thank you. Chris Peterson
Sorry Connor.
Hello Connor, I have not had a chance to set up tail scale on the Mac mini. Had to spend days off getting house ready for my moms visit but I am on vacation soon so should be able to resolve the vpn issues hopefully. Thanks again for your help. Chris Peterson
Hi @chrispy90,
We’ll make sure this thread stays open in the meantime, take all the time you need and the team will await your response.
I recommend also verifying that the Nighthawk router isn’t switching connected devices on the network between available WiFi bands.
