· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices
Describe the issue
Just bought the Nucleus One and have added an SSD drive to it. have added the Flac files from my NAS drive to the SSD. enabled it through Roon and Roon now has twice the number of music but the new files do not have my many years worth of ratings and playlists. I disabled NAS watch folder, then did a restore backup and the backup switched off the SSD and re-enabled the NAS storage. How do I get my ratings, playlists etc onto the SSD drive?
As Suedkiez pointed out, the key here is the order of operations — you need to first restore your backup before adding the new storage location, so Roon recognizes the files on the SSD as the same content and maps your ratings and playlists correctly.

Thanks guys. I followed the migration procedure as closely as possible to move my library from a Synology NAS to the internal SSD storage on my Nucleus.
The issue is that playlists are intact after the migration, however ratings and play history are no longer associated with the library. Nearly all albums/tracks are now showing as “not played” and unrated, even though this metadata previously existed.
The sequence performed was:
Confirmed that all music files still existed safely on the Synology NAS.
Created and verified a current Roon database backup.
Connected a USB SSD containing the RoonBackups folder to the rear USB port of the Nucleus.
Reformatted the internal SSD storage inside the Nucleus so it was completely empty.
Opened Roon and selected “Restore a Backup”.
Restored the latest Roon database backup from the USB SSD attached to the Nucleus.
After restore:
The NAS watched folder automatically reappeared and re-enabled itself.
Roon initially showed approximately 35,362 tracks imported from the NAS.
Playlists and library structure appeared intact.
Went to Settings > Storage:
Disabled the NAS watched folder.
Enabled Internal Storage only.
Internal Storage then showed:
“Watching for new files in real time”
0 artists / 0 albums / 0 tracks (expected because the SSD was empty after formatting).
Opened the Nucleus Web Administration interface and stopped the Roon Server.
Using SMB from a MacBook Pro:
Connected to the Nucleus Internal Storage share.
Copied the entire FLAC music library from the Synology NAS to the Nucleus Internal Storage.
Verified folders and music files appeared correctly copied.
After the copy completed:
Restarted the Roon Server from the Nucleus Web Administration page.
Reconnected to the Nucleus from Roon.
Current result:
Music files are present and playable from Internal Storage.
Playlists survived the migration.
However, most ratings and play history are no longer associated with the library.
Nearly all albums/tracks now appear as unrated and not previously played.
This same symptom has now occurred across multiple migration attempts.
Could you please advise:
whether the restored database is failing to match the migrated files correctly,
whether the backup itself may not contain the ratings/play history associations,
or whether there is an additional required step to preserve ratings/play history when moving from NAS storage to Internal Storage on Nucleus?
I completely understand how frustrating it is to see years of ratings and play history disappear after spending all that time carefully migrating your library. You did a fantastic job documenting your exact sequence of events, which makes it very easy to pinpoint exactly where the process went off track!
The issue lies in how Roon maps database information to your files. By disabling the old NAS folder and enabling the default Internal Storage as a separate location, Roon treated the migrated files on your SSD as a brand-new import. Your playlists survived because they look for matching track titles and artists, but the strict database associations for play history and ratings were left behind on the disabled NAS path.
To preserve all of your history, you need to trick Roon into treating the new Internal Storage as the direct continuation of your old NAS folder.
Here is how to correct the mapping using your existing backup and the files already copied to your SSD:
1. Restore the Database (Again)
Go to Settings > Setup and restore your backup once more. This will reset the database state and bring back your old Synology NAS watched folder with all of its ratings and history intact.
2. Disable the Default Folder
Go to Settings > Storage. Locate the newly created default "Internal Storage" folder and completely disable it. This prevents Roon from trying to scan it as a brand-new location.
3. Edit the Old Backup Path
Instead of creating a new folder, you must redirect the old one:
Find your old Synology NAS watched folder (the one brought back by the backup).
Click the three dots (...) next to it and select Edit.
Click Browse, and navigate to the directory on your Nucleus's internal storage where your music files are now located.
Save the new path.
4. Let Roon Rescan
Once you save that edited path, Roon will scan the files on the SSD. Because you edited the existing database path instead of creating a new one, Roon will recognize them as the exact same files from the NAS and perfectly re-link all your ratings and play history.

I’ve followed your recovery steps and restored my Roon database successfully. After the restore, everything is currently working correctly — playlists, ratings, and overall library structure all appear intact.
However, I am now at the step where I need to repoint the existing NAS watched folder to my new SSD location, but the SSD is not appearing as an available storage destination.
In the “Browse for music storage folder” dialog, I only see:
The SSD that contains my actual music library is not appearing as a selectable storage location, even though it is physically connected to the Nucleus and contains the copied music files.
At the moment:
NAS storage is visible and enabled
Internal Storage is visible but disabled
USB SSD is not available as a valid browse target for library mapping
Could you please advise why the USB SSD is not being exposed as a selectable storage location for the existing watched folder path, and what needs to be done to make it appear so I can complete the migration correctly?
In step 2 you said to disable the Internal Storage folder, but it has been disabled all along including the restore in Step 1 but am being careful so am not wanting to progress until further clarification
I am glad to hear the database restore was successful and that all your ratings and playlists are safely intact! You did exactly the right thing by pausing and asking for clarification rather than pushing forward. Keeping that default Internal Storage folder disabled is exactly where we want it to be right now.
The reason the Nucleus’s internal SSD is not showing up as a simple local folder in the browse menu is due to a quirk in how the database transitions a “Network Share” (your old NAS) to a “Local Drive” (your new SSD). Since the original path was a network location, the Roon UI expects the edited path to also be a network location.
We can easily bypass this by mapping the internal SSD as a network share using a local loopback IP address.
Here is exactly how to repoint it:
Go back to Settings > Storage.
Click the three dots (...) next to your old NAS folder and select Edit.
Click Browse, and then click the Add Network Share button.
In the Network Share Location field, enter the following path exactly: \\127.0.0.1\data\Storage\InternalStorage\
For both the Username and Password fields, enter: guest
Click Add Network Share to save it.
Once you save this, Roon will scan the internal SSD using that loopback address, match the files perfectly, and flawlessly link up all your metadata and history.
Thanks so much Vadim. Your communication was excellent. We are up and running using the Internal storage with 99% of playlists and ratings in place - just a little tidy up required. There are still 2 folders showing in Storage - the Nucleus One Internal Storage is disabled so do I now delete that one so there is only the \\127.0.0.1 one showing?
Great news — glad to hear you’re up and running with your library intact!
Regarding the two storage entries: the disabled “Nucleus One Internal Storage” entry is a default built-in location and cannot be removed.
Your active storage is now the \127.0.0.1 network share path, and that is all Roon will scan. The disabled entry will not affect your library in any way until it is disabled.
