I purchased the Nucleus One dedicated Roon server and have installed it at home on my network.
I previously was running the Roon server on an iMac which worked fine. I wanted to try the dedicated Roon server so i don’t need the Mac to be on to listen to music through Roon.
Ok, so i disconnected the Mac witihin the Roon App and switched to the Nucleus One. It works, i can listen to the music on my audio system which is connected via the network. I use a Linn Akkurate system hub and Tidal.
However, i was not able to connect to my music library which resides on a Synology NAS also on the network. Previously this worked fine when the Roon server was running on the Mac.
So here’s what’s happening:
- In the Roon App on the Mac, I go to Settings - Storage - Add Folder (see Screenshot 1)
- I enter the IP address of the Synology NAS as well as the user Login. I then get an error message as per Screenshot 2.
I do not know what to do next.
ARC:
- In the Roon App on the Mac, I go to Settings - Roon ARC. After a while i get an error message “Not Ready” - see Screenshot 3.
This also worked fine previously with the Roon server on the Mac.
Again, I do not know what to do next.
Any help much appreciated.
How can i send you screenshots ?

You shouldn’t use http in the Add network share popup box.

From the guide use smb://192.168.178.63/<share_name>, replacing <share_name> with the actual share name. You may want to look at the settings used on you Mac.
Please take a look at the @mjw ‘s instruction above, what he says is right.
Regarding ARC connection: Can you please take a screenshot from Roon ARC section and attach it here (looks like it was not attached immediately) so we can have a look at a problem.
ok, so i managed to get it to work by typing the following path : smb://ds720plus/music.
“ds720plus” is the name of the NAS on the network. Using the IP address as indicated in @mjw’s reply did not work.
Now i am trying to add the Music folder in my iTunes folder on my Mac as well. Any suggestions as to which path to indicate here ? I have tried several like smb:///music/itunes/music etc., but none of them worked.
Thanks for your help, it’s appreciated. I was surprised that it didn’t work when i entered the IP address, as it is the correct one. It’s not a static IP address, but that shouldn’t make a difference. The iTunes folder on my Mac is a shared folder. I just don’t seem to find the correct file path again …
Hi Connor, thanks for getting back to me. I did manage to set up the access to my library on the NAS on the network, once i figured out the correct file path. I still haven’t figured out the correct path for my Music folder on my Mac though. And the ARC issue is odd: it seems to be working, i can access my library on my iPhone even though i still get the error message (see screenshot) in the Roon App, under Settings.
Thanks for the update! I’m glad to hear you’ve managed to get your orignal network share setup correctly.
There are a few additional steps when setting up a network share with a folder on your Mac. We break them down here, let me know if this helps get you across the finish line there:
Are you over wifi when things appear to function normally?
Based on the arc error code you’ve share in your screenshot - this error indicates UPnP is available on the router but is failing for reasons not reported by the router or identified by Roon. In most cases, this means a firewall, VPN, or security software is interfering with UPnP.
Solution:
Restart your network hardware and update router firmware.
Try to set up manual port forwarding in your router.
Make sure the IP/Port matches in any port forwarding rule you create.
Toggle UPnP on/off in your router settings before attempting to autoconfigure again in Settings -> Roon ARC.
Double-check to make sure you don't have any VPNs, Firewalls, or other network filtering software blocking Roon.
Additional Notes:
Routers with outdated firmware will oftentimes not allow UPnP to run until the firmware has been updated. Similarly, certain VPN or proxy server configurations will cause this message. This message will also appear when enterprise-grade networks have certain filtering in place or are blocking UPnP despite it being enabled on the upstream router.
We wanted to reach out to see if you still required additional assistance with this issue. What do you currently see in ARC Settings under the server and cloud connection status (green light, red light, etc.)?
