Hello @Steve_Allsop !

I was able to retrieve a diagnostic data from your Nucleus and can see that there is already connected smb share for 3 tb disk to your Nucleus and there are some records that it’s mounted properly.

Is it the one you’re complaining about ?

If so, can you please try to readd it and share a screenshots of the issue from the Roon Remote App of Watched folder’s tab.

Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks!

Hi
Will do tomorrow- late here
So I can access any of my music that is currently on my SSD in the nucleus- works perfectly on any of my roon capable devices
When I bought new digital music (on Qobuz for example) I would download to my computer then copy over to storage file on nucleus - but I can’t see a file now - when I try to find my nucleus files on network on my computer it just doesn’t show anywhere even when I try network map through my Ethernet
I have double checked my ubiquiti (unifi) router and it lists the nucleus; I have disconnected the router and reconnected; the cables are all connected and working; I also restarted the nucleus after reconnecting it to the router
So it works in terms of playing; I just can’t add new music to the storage file in nucleus

@Steve_Allsop It sounds as though you might be using Windows to access the Nucleus with File Explorer? If so, be aware that Microsoft has recently tightened SMB security. See this article for how to gain access:

Hello @Steve_Allsop,

Thank you for the detailed explanation — that helps clarify what’s happening.

Since your Nucleus is playing music normally, the storage itself is mounted and working. What’s missing is SMB access from your computer, which is what you use to copy new files onto the Nucleus.

Geoff’s suggestion above is important here — Microsoft has recently tightened Windows SMB security, which can prevent Windows from discovering or connecting to devices like Nucleus even though they are online.

Could you please let us know whether the steps in Geoff’s link allowed you to access the Nucleus again from File Explorer?

Hi Vadim
Everything looked as described
But when I got to the last step there was no SMB option to exercise (or excise) - and yes I thinks it’s the “tightening” windows too because no problems in this area since I began until late December
In the meantime - I’d no idea I could drag new music files into Roon - bought some music from Qobuz and dragged it over today
So that’s good
But I did use the folder access to check I didn’t have an album when I was buying (eg if I buy from Bandcamp then forget and buy from Qobuz)
So any thoughts on next step options

When I say “no smb option” there was no SMB Client in my string - double checked id followed the instructions to the letter

You dont use smb in the actual string with a windows pc, mac’s do. My connect on my pc is

\rock\mypassport\music
If it is a windows pc, this might be the issue..

Edit, see next post for updated instructions..

Those instructions in the Help article are wrong (as has been pointed out a while back to Roon Labs). Please follow the instructions given in this Microsoft article:

Hello @Steve_Allsop ,

Glad to hear that the suggestion helped, this is wonderful news! I’ll go ahead and mark the thread for closure, happy listening!
