Nucleus Plus Data Recovery

Roon Server Machine

Roon Nucleus Plus Rev B

Description of Issue

My Nucleus Plus is not working anymore and I don’t have any backup of my profile.

I have bought a new Mini PC where I am going to install a new Roon Server on Windows.

Harddisk in my Nucleus Plus is still working. The problem is about the mainboard not functional anymore.

Is there a way to get my profile out of the NVMe harddisk and import it to new Roon Server in Windows.

I thought all my playlists etc. were in the cloud and would come automatically but just learned that they are only stored in the hdd in Nucleus+.

How can I do a recovery from the harddisk?

Thanks
Ener

You could attempt to install the NVMe in your mini PC, if it takes them. Then boot from it and attempt a backup of your database to external storage. It may not work due to the version of Roon OS/Roon Server being optimised for the Nucleus+.

If successful you’d be able to restore your new Roon Server.

Additionally, what steps have you taken to prove the Nucleus+ MB has failed.

Try by removing the NVMe, connect to a monitor/TV via HDMI and power on. If you get to the bios screen it’s not the MB but the NVMe.

If you get nothing with the above, check the power supply, try another suitable one.

It could also be the Nucleus power button. You can, I believe power it on without the power button, by pressing the fixed power button on the MB.

Hope this helps

Don’t forget to wear an anti static wrist band.

Unfortunately Windows won’t even show the files because the disk is Linux formatted :frowning:

The idea was to boot from the NVMe disk, so it wouldn’t matter whether Windows can read it

There are thumb-drive Linux distributions available. Even the ubuntu install media is able to do just that (choose “try” instead of “install”). With such a (temporary) Linux distribution available you should be able to access the old SSD and copy data to a save place (maybe an[other] thumb drive or external USB disk if the internal Windows disk is encrypted).

Hi @Ener_Gulum,

We can see an active RoonServer instance on a Windows 11 machine. Did you have a chance to connect the HDMI output of the Nucleus to a monitor? Please let us know what is displayed or share a photo. Thanks!
