Nucleus Plus not connecting to Roon via iPhone or laptop despite network presence (ref#Q1G6VV)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· My nucleus plus is reflected on my network and hooked up through the Ethernet port. The little green light on the right side is on and an amber or yellow light is on too. However, when trying to connect on the iPhone or laptop app all that happens is searching? The iPhone and computer or on the same network. Please help.z

Tell us about your home network

· Telus modem and direct Ethernet cable to Nucleus plus. No vpns used.

What OS is your laptop running? if is it a macOS, try this …

macOS Sequoia (version 15), has tighter (and more obfuscated) network security settings than preceding MacOS versions.

Can you please navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, and make sure Roon and Roon Server are allowed.

If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.

iOS
Can you please navigate to `Settings > Apps > Roon and ensure that ‘Local Network’ is enabled.

If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then restart the Roon application, and see if the same issue persists.

If that does not help, download a network scanner (I use fing) and see if it can see your Nucleus.

I’m using the latest software on both my mac air and iPhone 16 this is 26.2.

The Roon was enabled and I toggled off and on, rebooted and the screen on Mac and iPhone still reflect just searching.

My Telus network app shows my Nucleus connected and an IP address which I also used on the Roon app which still showed searching?

Hello @Gary_Gover ,

Thanks for sharing the issue with us.

Could you please try to access the Nucleus Web Administration Interface? You can find instructions here:

Please let us know if you are able to load that page successfully.

Additionally, could you try manually connecting to the server by entering its IP address directly?

Thanks.

Looking forward to your reply.

I tried connecting to the Roon service as suggested an again it keeps searching?

All options on both my phone and Mac air keep reflecting the searching screen? Also I scanned the ip address reflected on my Telus connect app and it doesn’t open anything up on safari or google browser.

The serial number for my Nucleus Plus is:
54B2038C0D9E

Hi @Gary_Gover,

Did you have any luck accessing the webUI of your Nucleus? Let us know how that goes.

Also, let’s perform a reboot of all your devices, along with your router, and let me know if that helps.

Thank you!

I have rebooted Telus modem 2 or 3 times. The nucleus is plugged into it via Ethernet cable. I had no success getting onto the internet page after putting in the ip address on both safari and google browsers.

@Gary_Gover,

Thanks for confirming that.

If you are unable to open the Nucleus Web UI by entering its IP address, it typically points to one of two things:

  1. network issue preventing the Nucleus from being visible on your local network.
  2. The Nucleus itself is not operating correctly.
To help us narrow this down, could you please confirm the following:
  1. Switches: Do you have any managed or unmanaged switches in your setup?
  2. VLANs: Have you configured any Virtual Local Networks (VLANs) or subnets at home?
  3. Router Check: Can you check your router's admin panel to see if the Nucleus appears in the list of connected devices?
  4. HDMI Test: Could you please connect a monitor to the HDMI port on the Nucleus and let us know what is displayed? A photo of the screen would be very helpful.
Thanks.

Thanks Alex for getting back to me. I have no switches or vlpn’s in my network. I’ve attached a pic of my Telus network app showing that the Nucleus detected about 1 day ago ( yesterday it reflected the Nucleus about 23 hours ago)? Lastly I hooked up and powered up the Nucleus to my display and it states no signal detected? I tried both hdmi ports. Cheers, Gary

@Gary_Gover,

Thanks for performing that test.

If the display remains blank (normally it should show system info and the IP address), it suggests the unit may not be powering on or booting correctly.

Could you please check for physical signs of life?

  1. Ethernet Lights: If connected via Ethernet, do you see any flashing lights on the port?
  2. Temperature: Is the unit warm to the touch?

Please let us know.

Thanks.

Alex, the unit normally runs cool and I have never really tried any configurations ( usually just default modes). As for the Ethernet lights there’s a green blinking one and a steady yellow or amber on which appears shortly after providing power. Also the power button reflects a white steady light shortly after powering up with out needing to press. When I do press and hold all lights go off.

Hello @Gary_Gover,

Thank you for the detailed update — that’s very helpful.

Given that the Nucleus is receiving power and showing Ethernet link lights, but the web UI is still not accessible, the next important step is to confirm whether the unit is fully booting and able to output video.

HDMI Test & Network Reset

Please try the following steps:

  1. Connect the Nucleus Plus directly to a TV or monitor using an HDMI cable
  2. Connect a USB keyboard to the Nucleus
  3. Power the unit on and allow it a few minutes to boot
  4. If you see text or system information on the screen, press ENTER
  5. Type:
resetnetwork
  1. Press ENTER and allow the process to complete

After this, please try connecting again from your Mac and iPhone and let us know if there’s any change.

If the HDMI Screen Remains Blank

If no image appears at all on the HDMI display (normally you should see basic system info and the IP address), this would suggest the unit is not booting correctly.

In that case, the best next step would be to contact our RMA team, who handle all hardware-related Nucleus issues.
Please open the Typeform link below and select:

  • This issue is related to a physical component

Typeform link: Nucleus Troubleshooting

Once submitted, the RMA team will take it from there.

Thanks again for your patience, and please let us know the outcome of the HDMI test.

Hi @Gary_Gover,

Have you had a chance to connect the HDMI output of this Nucleus to an external display/monitor? If so, did you see a BIOS diagnostic output or a blank screen?

If not, then please review the HDMI Test and Network Reset test that @vadim provided above and let us know if you have any questions. We’re happy to clarify any information, but we will require the results of this test to proceed from here.

We ask because our RMA team hasn’t yet seen an intake form matching your user account, and we want to ensure this case has reached a definitive next step.

Thanks for the follow up. After seeking advice from my local Hi Fi retailer I decided to throw away my Nucleus Plus Rev. B for a locally built Asus NUC which is now working flawlessly. It is a shame to throw away my beautiful Nucleus Plus. But the decision was easy once I discovered how difficult Roon’s customer service is. So glad I changed my mind about upgrading to a Roon Nucleus Titan. Cheers
