· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices

Describe the issue

I have a Nucleus Rev B running Roon 1.8 (legacy) as my core, and I am trying to upgrade to the current RoonOS (2.x, e.g. 2.1) and Roon 2.x. I can access the Nucleus web admin page and see both the Operating System and Roon Server Software entries. When I click “Reinstall” under Operating System to update the Nucleus OS, the process fails and the web UI reports {"status":"Failure","exitcode":11} . I have already power‑cycled the Nucleus and my router, verified wired Ethernet, and retried the reinstall multiple times with the same result. The core still runs on 1.8, but the OS upgrade will not complete. Please advise on the appropriate recovery or RMA steps for a Nucleus Rev B in this state and whether a managed RoonOS re‑flash or hardware check is needed.

RoonOS 2.x is only for Nucleus One/Titan and ROCK installs that were created in UEFI mode. Older Nucleus and ROCK installs that were created in Legacy BIOS mode are limited to RoonOS 1.0. This is normal.

You can nevertheless update to Roon 2.0, even when running RoonOS 1.0. To do so, you need to follow the instructions and it is not clear from your post if you did. Note that the “OS” in the following headline where it says RoonOS 2.0 (Nucleus / ROCK) is wrong, this is for Roon 2.0 (the RoonServer software) and not RoonOS 2.0 (@support can you fix this on the help page?):

RoonOS 2.0 (Nucleus / ROCK)

Warning

The filenames below are red is case-sensitive. Capitalization matters.

  1. Download the following file: roon-production.bin to a PC (do not modify the name, extension, or content of this file).

  2. Navigate to the /Data/Reinstall directory on your Nucleus or ROCK.

  3. Copy the roon-production.bin file that you downloaded into the Reinstall directory.

  4. Visit the RoonOS webUI page and click on the “Reinstall” button.

Alert

The instruction file will be deleted after the installation process completes. Once on a particular track or version, you will continue to receive updates from that track automatically. This includes future use of the “Reinstall” function.

However, the “exitcode 11” error when trying to update is usually a network problem of some kind, but you already tried the basic common fix by restarting everything. Let’s see what official support can recommend here.

Hi @Jeff_Christensen,

The particular exit code means that the Nucleus can’t successfully download the server package from the network even though it can contact Roon cloud servers. Unless you have a third-party firewall policing the network, this is probably an address resolution failure with the download URL.

The steps @Suedkiez has suggested above provide a manual workaround for downloading and installing the appropriate update package. Please ensure a reliable DNS service is configured on your router (such as Cloudflare or 1.1.1.1) in the meantime, and add Roon as a safelist item to any network security or antivirus software on the network.

Thank you and we’ll watch for your reply.

Hey @Jeff_Christensen, thank you for working with us through this issue. Did you have a chance to test out the suggested solution? We’d love to hear from you where things stand now. Just a heads up that this thread will close automatically soon, but you’re welcome to reopen it anytime through the Technical Support form if you need to continue:
