· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices

Describe the issue

After rebooting my Nucleus Titan (which I do regularly, because otherwise it slows down over time), I get the upper right spinner which shows "Rescanning Files 1/2". It has been doing that for over two hours, with no movement on the progress bar. Any idea what I can do to clear the hangup?

Library size = 50k tracks
2tb internal SSD storage, about 60% full

Hi @Fred_von_Lohmann1,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing those details with us.

First, I want to touch on your note about the Nucleus Titan slowing down over time. Please know that our R&D team is aware of this behavior and is actively working on performance improvements to address it in future updates.

Regarding the current issue where the system is stuck on “Rescanning Files,” the simplest and most effective way to clear this hangup right now is to perform one more restart of your Nucleus Titan.

Please give that another try and let us know if it successfully clears the rescan loop or if the progress bar gets stuck again. We’ll be on standby for your results!

Well, the issue eventually cleared itself up (no idea after how long). I just tried rebooting, and it has triggered exactly the same issue, “Rescanning files”. I will check periodically to see how many hours it goes on this way.

OK, so it was still stuck rescanning after 14 hours, so I rebooted as suggested, and it immediately goes back to the rescanning, with no movement of the progress bar (just as in the original screenshot I submitted).

well, this time it ended sometime before 9 hours were up, so that’s improvement?

Hello @Fred_von_Lohmann1,

Thank you for your patience and for keeping us updated on those rescan times. We took a deep dive into your Nucleus Titan’s diagnostic logs during these long scanning periods, and we found a very distinct pattern.

The storage scanner is getting caught in a continuous loop while attempting to extract information from three specific tracks in your library.

The three specific files causing the loop are located in your iTunes folder:

  • iTunes/iTunes Music/Music/Amanda Palmer/Unknown Album/01 New York Times Live at Waiheke.mp3
  • iTunes/iTunes Music/Music/Radar Bros/The Singing Hatchet/Open Ocean Sailing.mp3
  • iTunes/iTunes Music/Music/Beth Orton/KMTT in studio/She Cries Your Name (KMTT acou.MP3

To clear this hangup and return the system to its normal speed, please try the following:

  1. Access your Nucleus Titan’s Internal Storage via your computer’s file explorer.
  2. Locate those three specific .mp3 files and temporarily move them completely out of the Nucleus storage (for example, drag them to your computer’s desktop).
  3. Once they are removed from the monitored folder, reboot your Nucleus Titan one more time.

Without those files present, the startup rescan should breeze through and complete very quickly.

Would you mind moving those three files out and letting me know if the spinner finally disappears as expected?

No luck. Deleted those three files and rebooted, but still getting the spinner and unmoving progress bar after a half hour.

Hello @Fred_von_Lohmann1

Thank you for the updates. We are still seeing the traces of the corrupted files.

/roon/sys/storage/mounts/InternalStorage/iTunes/iTunes Music/Music/Amanda Palmer/Unknown Album/01 New York Times Live at Waiheke.mp3

/roon/sys/storage/mounts/InternalStorage/iTunes/iTunes Music/Music/Radar Bros/The Singing Hatchet/Open Ocean Sailing.mp3

/roon/sys/storage/mounts/InternalStorage/iTunes/iTunes Music/Music/Beth Orton/KMTT in studio/She Cries Your Name (KMTT acou.MP3

Would you kindly make sure that they are removed and run the Library cleanup after removing them from the folders, under the Settings → Library.

OK, that seems to have solved it! Seems strange that my earlier effort to delete those files didn’t work (I rely on syncing my Titan to a Mac mini, since there isn’t really a convenient backup solution for the Titan). But deleting directly seems to have done the trick! Thanks!
