Describe the issue

Since a while playing music from the internal storage on the Nucleus+ is troublesome, seems Roon can’t find songs or is looking quite long to find a song, and it happens it can’t find it.
So this is not about a streaming service but music on the Nucleus+ with speakers (speakers with internal DAC) connected directly to the Nucleus+.
All hardware is updated to the last version of Roon.
Playing live radio works always fine.
What could be wrong ???

Describe your network setup

Nucleus+, hard connected to the modem

Hey @Jan_Goormans,

Thanks for the detailed report. Since live radio plays reliably but local files on the Nucleus+ are stalling or failing to resolve, I’d like to narrow down whether we’re looking at a library access issue, a storage issue, or something specific to the affected files.

First, please check whether the internal drive is still being mounted and seen normally in the RoonOS WebUI, and confirm whether the music folder on that drive is still added as a watched folder in Roon. If the drive is visible, try opening a few of the affected albums from different artists, and let us know whether the delay or failure happens across the whole library or only certain folders/files.

To get a clearer picture, we’d also like to know whether anything changed around the time this started, even something small like a drive reformat, folder move, power interruption, or metadata cleanup. And if you can, include the exact local time when it happens again, plus the track or album name, so we can line that up with diagnostics on our side.

Let us know what you find, and we’ll take it from there. Thank you! :folded_hands:

hi Benjamin,

the internal drive is visible and so to see functioning ok
we can see all the files and access them on the PC
we did not do anything with the Nucleus, only a restart from time to time, and except for a few power interruptions over the years nothing has happend

we can play live radio and Qobuz without problems.

the problems occurs on all songs (we have got a short warning that there might be hardware problems)
and we did not do anything with that drive, except for a few power interruptions over the years
the Nucleus+ dates from 2019

Hello @Jan_Goormans,

I have some great news. Reviewing your system’s diagnostic data, we can see that your internal SATA SSD is actually completely healthy. There are no physical hardware issues with the drive itself.

Since the physical drive is in great shape, but Roon is still struggling to access the files, this strongly points to a database or OS level issue. It is highly likely that the past power interruptions caused some corruption within the RoonOS operating system itself.

To get this resolved, we recommend reinstalling the operating system. Here is the safest way to proceed:

  1. Backup Your Music: Even though the drive is healthy, please connect to the Nucleus over your network and copy all of your music files to your PC or an external hard drive just to be absolutely safe.
  2. Reinstall the OS: Once your music is securely backed up, open the Nucleus Web UI (the same page you shared a screenshot of earlier). In the top section labeled “Operating System”, click the Reinstall button.

This will download and install a fresh, uncorrupted version of RoonOS to clear out any system glitches.

Please let us know how the system performs after the reinstall!

hi Vadim,
We did just as you proposed and it went all good for about a day.
Now we are back with all the problems.
Live Radio and Qobuz plays without interruption.
Music from the internal storage is a problem, it takes long, sometimes Roon goes to the next number and we get a message the there is an problem with performance or hardware.
Also when we play music from the internal storage and we close and open the app it’s taking a lot of time.
Is this a hardware problem with the M.2 card that has the Roon operation system on it, or could it be that the SSD after 7 years use has some issues in reaction time ?
On the WebOS page the system status looks fine.
thanks
Jan

Hi @Jan_Goormans,

Thanks for the update. Since the OS reinstall only held for about a day, and Live Radio plus Qobuz continue to play without interruption, we want to pin down exactly when the issue shows up on the internal storage side.

Please let us know the exact local time, date, and track when the issue occurs. We reviewed the Nucleus logging and are not seeing any sign of hard disk issues at this time, but having the exact timestamp will allow us to focus on that specific area of the logging.

this is the song when Roon stopt playing, even the speakers directly connected with USB stopped playing (turning of like no more signal coming to the speakers)
and afterwards when we got it running again it stopped with everything after a few seconds of playing each song
(everything from the internal storage to Qobuz)

did a reboot tonight, all is going perfect just like after the last reboot
hope this time it will last longer than 1 day

Hello @Jan_Goormans

Mentioned issue at 9h58 am Brussels time related to the issue with the Qobuz CDN connection.

We’ve discussed this with our senior QA and development teams. The team is investigating some possibilities here and, as soon as that investigation is complete, we’ll be sure to follow up ASAP.

You have our apologies for the trouble here, and we’ve greatly appreciated your patience as we continue investigating this tricky issue. We’ll be in touch as soon as we can.
