Description of Issue

Total newbie question. Apologies in advance.

  1. I have a Roon account and therefore id, password. If I connect to my new Nucleus+, using finder, Command-K, then DHCP IP address, and try to connect as a registered user, it does not accept my Roon account id and password.
I can only connect as a guest. Any error in my process?

  2. I connect as guest and can see “internal storage”, can I now drag and drop an AIFF album directory to that storage, meaning, the .txt file and .AIFF files, as is? I’m asking as I don’t want to create a corruption.

Thanks a lot. Mike

The ID and password would be for the account to log into Roon (to authorize the core with their servers) once you start the unit.

I would start here:
TLDR: Drag and drop into the Roon app is the recommended way to get music onto the Nucleus.
Look in the “Importing Music to Internal Storage” section:

Also see the note in the “SMB” section:

Be sure to replace NUCLEUS with NUCLEUSPLUS if you have a Nucleus+ If asked for a username and password, use Guest for both.

And here is the manual link (there is a set-up section to read through, but you seem to have already done that?):

and another helpful one to read:

Yes, you can copy the music over via the file manager.

Hi, thanks for quick answer, and I have that working. I’m copying, sometimes deleting. Is there such a thing as empty trash, or compact, or need I worry about that?

There are options to clean up the database library. But, you shouldn’t use it until you have moved everything around correctly. There is a FAQ on migrating a library which is in part what you are doing that you might want to review. if it is important for you to have any play counts or playlists remain intact after the move.

Hi, thank-you for that. I am up and working but still cannot connect a network shared folder. I saw many posts on that and have tried all the suggestions but no go. Here is my setup:

-iMac M1
Set file sharing for a folder called “Music” on the desktop
-Roon Nucleus Plus
-Confirm my username by going to utilities/terminal/whoami
-Confirm roon core ip address from roon
-Attempt to add network share in the roon app as follows:
smb://roon Nucleas Plus IP address/Music
username same as “whoami”
password as per login
RESULT : Could not connect to shared : “Unauthorized”
-Try same with
macintoshhd/users/myuserid/desktop/Music
macintosh hd/users/myuserid/desktop/Music (as from “Get Info” on Mac for shared folder)
users/myuserid/desktop/Music
myuserid/desktop/Music
desktop/Music
—same result, not authorized—

I can only speculate I am not identifying the shared folder correctly, and therefore it thinks I’m trying to get a different folder, which is not authorized. However, I scanned everywhere I can find about Mac and sharing folders and in roon posts, and it seems I’m doing it right.

Thanks!

I assume you reviewed this FAQ as well

Yes, but it’s missing a critical point and now I understand a previous post. If you follow those instructions from the administrator account, the user, in this case me, cannot be added after selecting “options” when the file is shared (the user name is greyed out). That’s why in one post someone said they had to create a new dummy account. So I tried, that, i.e., created a dummy account just for music, and then that account can be added as a user of the shared folder. So this FAQ should be updated in my opinion. In short, I got it working. Thanks.
