Nucleus won’t find my external hard drive

Hi
My nucleus will not find my seagate external hard drive which has all my ripped CDs on. It has been ok in the past but lost connection so I tried to reset it so I told Roon to forget the hard drive and now it will not re find it. Doh. Help greatly appreciated.

Is it NTFS format?

I’m not pc savvy. Not sure. It’s a seagate 2tb and it was ok before.

Have you attached it to a Windows PC in the past?

No I’ve got a new Mac which replaced my old one. I will try to see if it recognises my drive today when I get the cable I ordered yesterday as new Mac’s only have type c connection

I have connected it to my Mac and it is immediately recognised so what’s the problem with the Nucleus??

You need to use the disk utility to determine how the drive is formatted.

Examples of filesystems include APFS, HFS+ (macOS Extended), FAT, exFAT, and NTFS. In macOS, APFS, HFS+, FAT, and exFAT are built-in.

For the Nucleus to recognize the drive it needs to be formatted exFAT.

But the drive has worked fine for over 2 years so why the change??

We need to know how the drive is formatted (which type of file system) before making suggestions

In that case, it is probably an exFAT drive that was uncleanly umounted (disconnected.) When a drive is in this state, the Nucleus won’t mount the drive.

The solution is to connect the drive to your Mac, and perform a disk check. Once this is done, unmount the drive before disconnecting from macOS.
