You may listen to the winner track yourself at HighEnd Munich in our room., May 15-18th.
And as well to the tracks taken during this reference recording event in the Hilversum studio
Agree. Just posted about it as well on a different thread.
This is Sound Liaison’s first Pure DSD recording — and honestly, it’s one of the most convincing arguments I’ve heard for the format. Captured with just one Josephson C700S microphone and recorded directly to DSD256, the entire session was done without mixing or editing. What you hear is exactly what the mic captured in the room. And the result? Stunning… Frans de Rond, the engineer behind the recording, has said that “DSD allows me to capture the full scope of a performance without compromise” — and I believe it. This is one of the few recordings where that philosophy isn’t just audible, it’s tangible.
The format itself is irrelevant. The microphone and the mastering are all that matter.
Yes this is his first DSD recording, but his other recordings sounds pretty good to me as well, to say the least
You may check yourself, if you can hear a difference in your setup, when playing back DSD256.
In this link, you may scroll down to the video of Jussi Laako and the test files download.
Furthermore, you might check out the new linked article on pureDSD by positive-feedback.
Thank you for the pointers. I am familiar with the opinion that DSD is better than PCM. I however do not subscribe to that, be it DSD256 or any other rate.
Not sure if DSD in general is always better than PCM.
The comparison is just about the post-processing method and about staying away from PCM in the chain.
Give it a try and compare with your own ears. The gear in use may play a role.
You may (or may not) hear a difference.
