Opening a laptop kills Roon playback on Chromecast

I was playing via radio an AAC track from my local library on the CCA in my library, and when I powered on a Mac laptop in another room, it just stopped playing in the middle of a track. Looking at the RoonServer logs, I see a flurry of activity, re-confirming all of my endpoints, pushes up to Roon central, etc. Looks like the stop may have something to do with the new DSP code. Not sure whether “picked null preset!” is a bad thing, but when I use exclamation points in trace messages, they usually mark something I thought couldn’t occur.

Wow! I opened that same laptop again, and sure enough, Roon stopped again (in the other room).

Hello @Bill_Janssen,

Thanks for the report, I’m passing this information along to the QA team for further analysis. Could you provide some further information on your networking setup, things like the make/model of your router as well as if any switches or mesh devices are on your network?

-John

Sure. I’m running a stock R7000 Netgear Nighthawk, Roon core machine (headless dedicated Ubuntu 18.04, Ryzen 7) directly connected via Ethernet, playing local music stored on local SSD. CCA about 10 feet from router, using 2.4 Ghz WiFi, has been extremely reliable for months. Laptop connects to the R7000’s 2.4 Ghz WiFi when opened. No switches or mesh devices.

Extremely repeatable.

Also happens when I’m just playing an album, I’m afraid. No radio involved.

Hello @Bill_Janssen,

Could you check and see if you have the “Smart Connect” feature enabled on your router? If it’s enabled, we would recommend turning the feature off and checking if the behavior is still there. I’ve included a snippet from the R7000 manual on how to configure this setting.

-John

No, Smart Connect is not enabled on my router.

Just looked at system.log to see if there was some connectivity problem on the Core machine. Nothing in there though.

Hello @Bill_Janssen,

Thanks for the detailed reports, I’ve filled a ticket with the dev team for further analysis. I’ll be sure to follow up when they have had a chance to investigate.

-John

I could add that while I generally don’t use DSP on my endpoints, the CCA endpoint that’s stopping does have DSP enabled to reduce the bass (the speakers are too close to the wall).

Hello @Bill_Janssen,

Just wanted to check in and say that we are still investigating your report. Please keep us updated if you notice any changes in behavior that might give us some further insight into the issue. Thanks!

Still happening with build 401.
