Pausing a song breaks its playback

Sorry - life has been lifing.
Playing tonight and track stopped at end. At about 12:12AM 12-18-25 I clicked a different album and track. It wasn’t until some seconds into 12:14 that the song finally started.

I have used the webplayer a bit and didn’t notice the issue.

Hi @Tony_West

I’ve reviewed the logs around the timeframe you mentioned, and based on the data we have, I don’t see evidence of a prolonged idle pause between tracks.

The track started at 00:10:11 To the Women in My Life / Le Lis - Billy Cobham

12/18 00:10:11 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 24/96 TIDAL FLAC => 24/96] [100% buf] [PLAYING @ 0:02/4:14] To the Women in My Life / Le Lis - Billy Cobham

The original track completes normally at 00:14:09, and Roon advances to the next track immediately. With the 34% prebuffer.

12/18 00:14:09 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 24/96 TIDAL FLAC => 24/96] [92% buf] [PLAYING @ 4:00/4:14] To the Women in My Life / Le Lis - Billy Cobham
12/18 00:14:14 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 24/96 TIDAL FLAC => 24/96] [38% buf] [PLAYING @ 4:05/4:14] To the Women in My Life / Le Lis - Billy Cobham
12/18 00:14:18 Trace: [prebuffer] ready 326400/960000 (34%) @ 0/463 sec
12/18 00:14:19 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 24/96 TIDAL FLAC => 24/96] [2% buf] [PLAYING @ 4:10/4:14] To the Women in My Life / Le Lis - Billy Cobham
12/18 00:14:23 Info: [zone MicroRendu] OnPlayFeedback OnToNext
12/18 00:14:23 Debug: [zone MicroRendu] _Advance (Track)

The next track starts playing almost right away (within ~1 second):

12/18 00:14:24 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 24/96 TIDAL FLAC => 24/96] [100% buf] [PLAYING @ 0:01/7:43] Snoopy's Search / Red Baron - Billy Cobham

This indicates a normal end-of-track transition, not a stalled playback state.

Later in the same session, we also see a new connection coming from an iPhone, which establishes a RAAT session and becomes an active endpoint:

12/18 00:15:12 Trace: [remoting/brokerserver] [initconn 192.168.11.128:50974=>192.168.11.116:9332] Connected
12/18 00:15:13 Info: [raatserver] GOT DEVICE 3c95f1d5-521c-4073-ab73-a0817ab7d520::default Type=ios Name=iPhone Vendor=Apple
12/18 00:15:13 Info: [transport] created zone jwollie3

Immediately after this iPhone connection, playback continues normally:

12/18 00:15:11 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 24/96 TIDAL FLAC => 24/96] [100% buf] [PLAYING @ 0:47/7:43] Snoopy's Search / Red Baron - Billy Cobham
12/18 00:15:16 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 24/96 TIDAL FLAC => 24/96] [100% buf] [PLAYING @ 0:52/7:43] Snoopy's Search / Red Baron - Billy Cobham

This confirms that playback control was successfully re-established via the iPhone client and that audio playback itself was not blocked or stuck.

We also verified the linear correlation between the track playback position and the system timestamps in the logs, and they align exactly, confirming continuous playback with no hidden pauses or stalls during this period.

It’s also important to clarify that the buffer percentage decreasing toward the end of a track is expected behavior — at that point, there is simply no more audio data left to buffer, so this is not an error condition.

Based on this log section, playback transitions and subsequent continued playback are considered as expected behavior. If there was a delay of multiple minutes before audio started, it likely occurred at a different timestamp?

Right now, at 2:42 PM Friday Dec 19, after Roon would play neither Tidal nor Qobuz even though it successfully searched and found the album on both services, it finally started playing.

I had been listening to the album via Tidal, but it stopped after playing fairly normally. I was trying to add a song to a playlist, so I wasn’t paying close attention to the time. While trying to add the song, Roon suddenly said it had been deleted. After using the back button to try getting back to the album, Roon said the album could not be found. Then I searched for it and found it, and added the song I wanted to the playlist. It was then I tried playing the next track that it wouldn’t work via Tidal/ Next, I tried via Qobuz to play the record, but that also wouldn’t play. Eventually (at 2:42), Roon played from the Qobuz file. I had tried Qobuz last, but I didn’t capture how long the delay was until it played.

I just reread your last reply:

This time, I had been playing via the iPhone, then went to the PC when it didn’t work from the phone.

Hi @Tony_West,

Thanks for the additional timestamp! We’re unfortaunly seeing similar behavior from logs - it looks like playback is starting somewhat quickly after:

We can see the current song ending here:

14:40:12 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 24/96 QOBUZ FLAC => 24/96] [PLAYING @ 7:39/7:43] Snoopy's Search / Red Baron - Billy Cobham

While Roon is loading the next song:

12/19 14:40:17 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 24/96 QOBUZ FLAC => 24/96] [LOADING @ 0:00] Stratus - Billy Cobham / Novecento

With playback starting here:

2/19 14:40:18 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 16/44 TIDAL FLAC => 16/44] [PLAYING @ 0:00] Stratus - Billy Cobham / Novecento
12/19 14:40:23 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 16/44 TIDAL FLAC => 16/44] [100% buf] [PLAYING @ 0:04/6:30] Stratus - Billy Cobham / Novecento
12/19 14:41:18 Trace: [MicroRendu] [Lossless, 16/44 TIDAL FLAC => 16/44] [100% buf] [PLAYING @ 1:00/6:30] Stratus - Billy Cobham / Novecento

We do see repeated issues around your iPad attempting to connect during playback:

12/19 14:41:11 Info: [raatserver] [iPad] connecting (attempt 9)
12/19 14:41:11 Warn: [raat_ll/client] [iPad] failed to connect(0) Connection refused
12/19 14:41:11 Trace: [raatserver] [iPad] client connection failed. Retrying in 12807ms

But it doesn’t seem to actually interfere with playback.

Certainly, let me know if this is also the incorrect timing you mentioned above. Thank you!

It happened again:

I was playing via radio and roon displayed the wrong lyric. I was compelled by the lyric displayed to see what song it was from. After googling on my phone, I used the iPad to select the album and set the song to play next. When the current song ended, Roon did not play the selected song, but displayed the moving icon that I associate with it looking for the song. I then chose the same song in Qobuz (Versions button worked) and selected it to Play Now. After about a minute, it finally played via Qobuz.

440 failed with tidal, then switched to qobuz
442 played with Qobuz

Hi @Tony_West,

While we appreciate the timestamps, it’s unclear if you’ve tried out any of the above troubleshooting steps yet.

Have you simplified your network setup at all? Bypass all network gear, and get a direct Ethernet connection from your server to your primary router, as well as to one of your endpoints and remotes and see if you run into the same issue.

Thank you!

HI,

Unfortunately, the layout of the house precludes setting everything up to run directly from modem to NAS to microRendu. The network is a Cisco small business router/firewall (1 Gig). From the LAN closet, there is a home run (Cat 6) to my office and a Netgear 24 port gigE switch that feeds the gear in here (computers, TV, theater receiver, streamer (2 channel is separate from the theater system), etc.).
I recycle the DHCP server around once a month, more if I encounter issues that could be related to it. The NAS gets recycled a minimum of once a week; again, more, if Roon is quirkier than usual.
There is also a home run to the room the NAS is in, which hangs off an 8 port Cisco Meraki switch.
I suppose for testing purposes, I could bring the NAS into my office and hang it off the same switch the Sonore is on; would that serve your purpose?

Would this work?
Modem->Cisco->Netgear->Sonore & NAS

Just checking to see if y’all had replied and it died again (about 11:27AM eastern). No interaction from me until I paused it as I have a meeting coming up…
