Hi guys
I’d like to have an explanation about what happens today after updating my PC.
Suddenly, when I’m about to select the output audio i see my hegel 390 is shown on Airplay ! I select it and it’s works fine!
Before that i just have to connect my PC via USB because theH390 not roon ready yet… it’s very strange, i don’t have any Apple devices at all.
Thanks
AirPlay is not limited to Apple devices. Think of it as a similar protocol to Bluetooth, present in a variety of devices.
If you enable your H390 as an AirPlay device in Roon, Roon will be able to AirPlay to it. Wirelessly that is.
Yes i understand.
Thanks for helping
Ensure that Roon and Raat server have permissions in Windows firewall, sometimes this gets messed up with updates and can prevent devices showing up. Reboot the pc that’s connected to the Hegel and powercycle the Hegel to see if that helps.
I don’t think RAAT applies here since the H390 is not Roon ready.
True but worth a punt anyway.
True For when it will be ready.
99.99% as of last month…
There might be a fair few people selling high end streamers if it works really well.
Oh, that old can of worms I do feel the Hegel customer pain. Reminds me of Spotify announcing HiFi.
In your opinions, in my case… is it better to stream via Airplay or to switch back the USB ?
Airplay is limited to 16/44 (CD quality) whereas your USB can go to 24/384 if the rest of your setup gives it the benefit (which I imagine with that amp it will do).
Both are fine but USB allows Roon upsampling which you might prefer.
The question is the possible impact of having the Roon core that close to your amp from a noise perspective and giving it a good test to see which you prefer.
You could also look at a Raspberry Pi as a streamer which some would recommend and feed the USB from that. Buts it’s all good testing work
Yes, i see.
Indeed i was looking for the blusound node 2, i want to keep listening through roon, or maybe to switch to Tidal connect. Hegel H390 still don’t have roon ready/ Tidal connect… i simply don’t like my PC standing near my setup…
That makes total sense.
I think that Hegel will have it Roon ready by the end of summer (but that is my interpretation of what Anders wrote).
If you can live with CD quality then maybe just use Airplay for a couple of months.
Other than that the Node, Pi or Zen Stream are all good options, a number of people have said that the Stream feeding the Hegel through SPDIF was excellent. I have multiple streamers, and all create a good feed for an amp of that quality. Getting a Pi should be the cheapest option, but they are difficult to get
Hegel don’t say anything about it… they don’t want to promise us… lot’s of H390 H590 owners are still waiting for Roon really… all of them are confused as me that’s why I’m looking for another solutions… it’s really frustrating to keep connect and disconnect the PC via the USB, the fan noise of the PC…
Just want to make it simple and listen to good stuff!
Thanks for your response.
No problem and good luck. I really hope it is soon
H390 is ethernet only. The Airplay implementation is actually very good and sounds quite acceptable given the inherent limitations. If I were waiting for my H390 to be Roon Ready, and not willing to invest in a Roon Ready streamer, I would be pretty happy to live with the Airplay option for a few months.
