Describe the issue

iPhone 15, IPad 2025, Mac mini M1 Tahoe 26.2, Roon version 2.65, Roon server version 2.65. I’m not very good at this anymore, please let me know if you need more details. This started (network problems) about 6 weeks ago with my old Mac Mini i7, I replaced it with a Mac Mini M1, but the problems did not resolved.

Describe your network setup

Ziggo Connectbox, TP-link Deco X60 (never had any problems before!).
ISP Vodafone Ziggo [moderated: public IP address removed]

Hello @angelorasmijn ,

I wonmder if this could be a DNS issue, we have seen users have a better experience in the past if they change their Router’s DNS servers from the ISP provided ones to Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS. Can you please give this a try and let us know if it helps?

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. Just to let you know It’s already on a Google DNS.

Due to this Roon issue, Today I had to reset my Deco X60 network. This fixes only the problems for 1-2 days.

Hi @angelorasmijn,

Can you provide more information on your network setup, and how your Mac server is connected to your primary router?

If possible, please simplify your setup and get a direct connection via ethernet from your server to your router, and see if you run into the same issues.

Thank you! :folded_hands:

Hi Benjamin,

What kind of information do you need?

With a cable I had these issues beforehand. It’s an old type of cable, so the speed is too slow.

And if I want to change this, I need to hire a contractor as the cable is in the wall etc.

That’s why I use the Deco x60 and I’m using it for 6 years without any problems.

Hello @angelorasmijn,

I completely understand not wanting to tear open your walls to replace an ethernet cable, and it makes perfect sense why you would want to rely on your Deco X60 mesh! However, it is worth keeping in mind that consumer networking gear runs 24/7 without active cooling. Over the years, the constant heat causes their internal components to slowly degrade. Because of this, the fact that your Deco system is 6 years old is actually a reason to suspect it might be failing and causing these intermittent dropouts, rather than a guarantee of its reliability.

Since a direct ethernet connection to the main router isn’t feasible right now, we have another highly effective way to isolate the network.

1. The Mobile Hotspot Test

The next time the network drops or you encounter those login errors, please try creating a Wi-Fi Hotspot from your mobile phone and connect your Mac Mini M1 directly to it.

This completely bypasses both your Ziggo Connectbox and your aging Deco network. If Roon connects and functions perfectly while on cellular data, we will know definitively that the mesh hardware is indeed starting to fail or block traffic.
