Play an album without alternate takes?

Hi - I have a bunch of albums that have successive takes of the same song. (shown as “Alt tk” i the title.

Can anyone think of a clever way to play an album that automatically skips them?

Thanks and happy new year!
Peter

Three options:

  1. Create a playlist with only the original release tracks

  2. Ban the alternative takes or

3.move the alternative takes to a separated release of the same album so it will show up under ´Duplicates´.

Hi - thanks for the ideas. I don’t seek to ban them… because oftentimes they are interesting… but more often than not, I don’t want to hear 3 variations of the same song in a row.

Me neither… but your post made me think about what I might do about it!

How about  all the non-alt-take tracks then use focus?

You could select only the tracks that you want on that album’s page and then Play Now/Add to Queue.

You could tag the alternates with a Tag called something like “Alternates”, focus on that and invert the focus. You can batch tag at least some of your alternate takes by searching in Track View for songs with “Alternate” in the name, selecting all of the results, and tagging them.

You can still play them explicitly after banning them. The only thing that banning does is to exclude them from being automatically played (e.g. when playing the whole album or in Roon Radio)
