Playback issue with bluetooth headphones on mac

Description Of Issue

Evaluating Roon to see if I will build a whole home audio system around it. Currently running on my MAC, and using a set os Sonos speakers, and headphones. (Will move this to a Linux host some time).

Problem: Playback via headphones is quieter than expected. Volume control only allows a minor adjustment.
Under the audio settings “This mac” is shown, with 5 outputs I can enable. These are “System Output”, “Macbook Pro Speakers”. the two displays, and the USB webcam. The Bluetooth Headphones are attached, but not show here.
If I open the sound settings on my mac I do see all the above mentioned devices, and the headphones. So it looks as if Roon does not pick up all the options core audio knows about.

I enabled “System Output” and this allows me to play via the headphones. But audio level is set to 100% in Roon, and does not match what is set in the system audio menu. Dialing that up to 100% still yields low audio level. (Mutch lower then when playing directly via the Tidal App).

What is the reason?

Hello @Krist_van_Besien ,

Welcome to the forum and apologies for the delay in getting back to you here.
Can you please share a screenshot of your Signal Path when this issue occurs?
Do you have any additional DSP turned on?

I’ve restarted everything and now outputting via “System Output” on my Mac does allow me to adjust the volume in an usable range. Weird that the problem went away by itself…
