Playback issue with Qobuz tracks stopping after 30 seconds on Roon (ref#ILYQYE)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· There is a problem between qobuz and Roon. Qobuz is playing fine when I skip Roon. When using Roon a lot of tracks I’ve tried playing stop after around 30 seconds eg Beastie Boys Paul’s Boutique album. I’m on
Latest versions of everything. Roon, Bluesound, qobuz and WiiM. I’ve logged in and out of Roon and Qobuz. I’ve rebooted Roon server and I’ve rebooted Router. No fix.

Tell us about your home network

· All devices are hardwired Ethernet. I’m in community fibre full fibre internet. I have four systems feeding into Roon.

Hi @Chris_Robinson1,

If playback is arrested at precisely 0:30, that’s usually an indication that your account tier isn’t authorized to play the full content from Qobuz; you’re being limited to the “preview” version of this file.

For due diligence, please try verifying that your Qobuz account page and Roon Settings → Services → Qobuz are using the exact same credentials.

From there, sign out and back into Qobuz within Roon.

Do you see any errors in Roon when tracks stop/skip?

We’ll watch for your reply. Thank you!

I’ve followed your suggestions. Authentication details are identical. I’ve logged out and back into qobuz in Roon. I’m now not getting any music from the album I was previously getting approx 30 seconds per track. I also tried playing mikes Davis kind of blue, first track, which okayed fine earlier today but now isn’t.

I hadn’t altered any settings and it was previously playing fine. The only message I’m getting is that it may take a few moments for audio to start (something like that).

I’m now back to a position where sine tracks play normally eg mikes Davis kind of blue yet others eg beastie boys randomly skip.

It appears that tracks/albums previously stored within my library play fine. But anything not in my library is only playing clips.

Hey @Chris_Robinson1,

Thanks for the reply! The fact that non-library content plays only as clips (~30s) is exactly how Qobuz previews work for free-tier or lapsed subscriptions. Your library tracks would still play because Roon cached them differently. Log into

directly and confirm your subscription is active and not in a grace/trial period.

It does look like you may have a trial account with Tidal - note that this unfortunately won’t work within Roon either. Due to restrictions coming from both streaming services, Roon can only sync with paid subscriptions.

Let’s also clear your Roon Server cache in case there are any stale traces lingering:

  • Exit out of Roon/RoonServer (from the taskbar)
  • Find and open your Roon database
  • Navigate to /Library/RoonServer/Cache
  • Move the contents of the /Cache folder elsewhere, like your desktop
  • Try restarting Roon and verify if the issue still occurs

Let me know if the above help, thanks Chris! I’m confident we can get you up and running smoothly soon. :folded_hands:

I don’t think you’ve seen my earlier message. I’ve verified my Qobuz is still active (I’m paying for it. Qobuz Studio) and I’m logged into Qobuz on Roon with the same credentials. Some of my Qobuz music plays fine. Some doesn’t. Eg Miles Davis kind of blue plays fine. Beastie boys Paul’s boutique doesn’t play. Not all albums in library play. It appears completely random as to what will and will not play. When I use Qobuz connect all albums play fine. It’s just the relationship between Roon & Qobuz that doesn’t work. I’ve logged out and back in. Logged out of server and back in. Reinstalled app etc. any other suggestions? Also. I know that my Tidal account is inactive. So I’m not expecting that ti play.

Hello @Chris_Robinson1

We have reviewed the diagnostic data on your account before but without the direct timestamp, it is hard to understand where the problem is.

First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.

It’s just happened at 12:42. Paul’s Biutique. Beastie boys. I’m in London. Happened everytime I play it and randomly other albums. Plays many fine. Seems to be no rhyme or reason.

@Chris_Robinson1,

Can you please temporarily disable your Tidal account in your Roon installation and try to find this song again, then play it?

Thanks.

Will do. Additionally. The server keeps crashing/music stops, after so long. Like a network issue. But only when playing through Roon. If I use Qobuz connect, Bluesound or WiiM, everything plays fine. No interruptions no problem. I’ll delete Tidal though I’m not currently using it anyway.

Hi @Chris_Robinson1,

Thanks for your patience so far! From a fresh Roon Server diagnostic, we can confirm that all Beastie Boys playback is sourced from Tidal (album IDs like 202:0:1780187, API calls to api.tidal.com), not Qobuz. The tracks are served as LowQuality, 24/22 TIDAL MP3 meaning Roon is using a free/trial Tidal session, which serves 30-second previews before cutting off.

Definitely disable Tidal from your Roon account and see if that helps.

Separate from that, a specific qobuz playlist returns 401 errors persistently. Every 2 hours, Roon’s library sync hits this playlist and receives:

Warn: [qobuz] [http] error result from http request:
 {"status":"error","code":401,"message":"Current authenticated user is not authorized to perform this request"}

We’re not able to see what specific playlist this is, but I would attempt to remove and re-copy it to your Roon profile and see if playback is fixed.

And lastly, there are repated “poor connection” warnings in the logs, concentrated almost entirely on 28 May, these loo like:

Warn: FTMSI-B-OE qo/7A28E5D2: poor connection kbps:995.0 (min:5754.0)

I would test with a Qobuz stream quality setting reduced from 24-bit Hi-Res to CD quality temporarily to confirm it’s a bandwidth issue.

Thank you! :folded_hands:

Hi @Chris_Robinson1,

Wanted to follow up on this and see where things stand. Were you able to disable Tidal on your Roon account, try removing and re-copying the Qobuz playlist that was returning 401 errors, and test again with Qobuz set to CD quality instead of 24-bit Hi-Res? If you’ve had any updates from those steps, let us know what you’re seeing and we’ll take it from there, thanks.

I had already disabled Tidal but I don’t think that was the issue as I don’t use it. I’m not sure which Qobuz playlist was returning errors. I didn’t experience errors when listening to a playlist. I’d managed to get it working again. Then, following the latest update I wasn’t able to log-In. After rebooting a few things including the server I managed to get things working again. This morning it won’t play anything.

Very unstable. It used to be fine.
