Describe the issue

Can not maintain playing to Denon x4800H, tracks skip forward when failing to play. Can not play to Chromecast Audio without skipping. Same setup Spotify, Qobuz, Plexamp all work flawlessly.

Describe your network setup

Verizon G3100, backhaul to E3200. Core wired to G3100. Denon wired to E3200. Connection provides ~300 Mbps consistently over backhaul. WiFi is fast and good signal with multicast enabled (dns-sd -B _services._dns-sd._udp shows services). All devices on same subnet, 192.168.1.0/24. Chromecast Audios on 2.4 GHz 802.11gn IoT SSID with same subnet as every other device. Denon and Roon remotes on same WiFi SSID.

Can you post a screen shot of the Roon Signal Path when this skipping occurs?

Hello @rizons,

Thank you for the detailed description — it’s very helpful.

From your setup, everything appears to be correctly configured at a high level, and it’s great to hear that other services like Spotify, Qobuz, and Plexamp are working without issues. That narrows it down to something more specific to how Roon interacts with your network or endpoints.

To better understand the issue, could you kindly help us with the following:

  1. Does playback work correctly using AirPlay to the Denon X4800H, or is the issue only present when using RAAT (Roon Ready or Chromecast)?
  2. Have you tried connecting the Denon directly to the G3100 router, even temporarily, to test if the issue persists without the E3200 mesh node involved?
  3. Can you try playing to the System Output (the local output of a Roon Remote like your phone or PC)? This helps isolate whether the problem is network-related or endpoint-specific.
  4. Regarding your Chromecast Audios:
    • Are you able to confirm whether client isolation is disabled on the IoT SSID?
    • Alternatively, could you try temporarily connecting one Chromecast Audio to your main Wi-Fi SSID and test playback?
Multicast and SSDP are essential for Roon to communicate with your devices, a

Let us know the results of the above checks — it will help us narrow down the cause further.

I’m not sure why, but the x4800H has started working fine on wireless again. Perhaps the roon core was busy since I had recently set it up.

I am still having problems with the Chromecast audio. They work individually but not when grouped. I think that this is just a bandwidth limitation as they work OK with compressed audio like Spotify. It might just be a sacrifice that I need to make for the Roon experience.

Hey @jtpoirier,

I’m glad to hear the x4800H is functioning properly!

In regard to your chromecast devices failing when grouped together, does this happen when you group them using Google cast group, as well as when you group them in Roon?

If you could, reproduce the issue, share the name of the track attempted to play, and then please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!

We’ll take a closer look into what might be going on once your Roon Server logs have been uploaded. :folded_hands:
