Describe the issue

When attempting to play music with a purely Tidal library, a short bit of distortion plays, then the selected song is skipped. Eventually playback just hangs and gives up completely until I restart the endpoint. Only a very few songs work as expected.

This happens on my EverSolo DMP-A10 and when using my iPhone or iPad as the endpoint. The burst of distortion at the start of most songs is the same regardless of the endpoint.

I’ve recorded what it looks and sounds like from the POV of my iPad (as Roon controller and endpoint).

Describe your network setup

UniFi wired setup. Networking works fine.

Hey @palmy,

Good to see you on the community again! Sorry to hear about your playback issue with Tidal.

Based on a recent diagnostic report from your Roon Server, we’re seeing indications that the tracks are ending early due to a buffered read error, specifically caused by a failure in the external processing pipeline.

The diagnostic report shows the prebuffering thread encountered a read failure. This could mean that Roon was unable to read or decode the track properly.

A few next troubleshooting steps to try:

  1. Safely stop Roon Server from running and reboot both your server machine and your router.
  2. Try playing the same file on a different zone or directly from the system output of your phone or remote device.
  3. If possible, play Tidal content directly, bypassing Roon, on the same output and see if you run into the same issue.
  4. Check the firmware version on your Eversolo, update if necessary.
  5. Disable any DSP, or additional zone customizations, and see if you run into the same issue.

We’ll be on standby for your reply, thank you! :raised_hands:

Hi Benjamin,

Thank you. Please see below.

Thanks.

  1. Safely stop Roon Server from running and reboot both your server machine and your router. —> done
  2. Try playing the same file on a different zone or directly from the system output of your phone or remote device. —> playing tidal directly works fine
  3. If possible, play Tidal content directly, bypassing Roon, on the same output and see if you run into the same issue. —> done. this works fine.
  4. Check the firmware version on your Eversolo, update if necessary. —> done / no change
  5. Disable any DSP, or additional zone customizations, and see if you run into the same issue —> done / no change

Hi @palmy,

Thanks for the follow up!

From a diagnostic report from your Roon Server, we’re only seeing failures in relation to the Eversolo device. Can you also reproduce the issue when using the system output of your iPhone or iPad?

Can you get your Roon Server connected directly to your primary router via ethernet and reproduce the issue?

Thank you!

Hi Benjamin,

I tried again now on my iPhone and it doesn’t work. I get the same behavior across my 3 devices. In the video I originally posted you can see the output is set to the iPad I was recording on.

The server is connected to my primary router via Ethernet. It’s a fully updated Fedora 41 server and is the same one I used successfully in the past.

Thank you.

Hi @palmy,

Thanks for the follow-up and thanks for the patience! As a next step, could you please review your Roon Settings>Services>Tidal>Streaming Quality to confirm you have the highest resolution option selected?

We’re not seeing any evidence of a video - could you please attempt to re-upload it?

If you haven’t yet, it may be worth testing a different DNS server for your machine running Roon Server - we have seen users have a better experience in the past if they change their Router’s DNS servers from the ISP provided ones to Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS. Can you please give this a try and let me know if it helps?

Thanks!
