Hey @gsmith2111, welcome to the community,

Playback pausing on every source usually points to a connection or device path issue, so we’d like to narrow down where the interruption is happening.

To get a clearer picture, a few things would help:

  • What zone is actually pausing when this happens, and is it a Roon Ready, AirPlay, USB, or another type of output?
  • When the pause happens, does the track stop at the same point each time, or is it random?
We’ll also want to review diagnostics around one of these pauses. If you can note the exact local time, date, and what was playing the next time it happens, we can take a look from there.

One thing worth checking in the meantime is your network path, especially since there’s a router and switch in the chain. Our Networking Best Practices article covers the setup details that tend to matter most for playback stability.

Send over those details and we’ll take the next step with you, thank you!

Noris,

Thank you for responding.

My music server is an Innuos Zen Mk 3.

This is a Roon Ready device.

I have been using this setup for about five years without problems until recently.

The track stop point appears to be random, though most common soon after the track begins.

I had a pause today

Friday June 12 1315 BST

The track playing was from Playlist 029

Dmitri Shostakovich: String Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 110 - I. Largo.

Hi @gsmith2111,

Thank you for your patience.

Logs from the server show a consistent pattern of dropouts with this USB DAC starting about 46 minutes into the listening session. These are not upstream, but in the USB path between your Zen Mini and the Combo384 Amanero DAC. Note that this doesn’t occur during Roon Ready playback, but when you’re using the Zen Mini’s ALSA driver to play via USB.

Can you share a screenshot of the Signal Path?

Does this always happen after you’ve been listening to music for a longer period of time, or is it sometimes more immediate?

We’ll watch for your reply.

The pattern of dropouts has been random to a large extent.

Often at the beginning of a track.

Sometimes at the beginning of a session, sometimes later.

At its worst (this only lasted a few days) it was happening every one or two tracks.

In recent days I have not had a dropout since the one I reported on Friday June 12 1315 BST.

Signal Path

Hi @gsmith2111,

Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Thank you for providing the screenshot of your signal path

It is great to hear that you haven’t experienced any dropouts since June 12th. Given that the issue has been intermittent, I wanted to check in and see if the system has remained stable since then, or if you have noticed any further unexpected pausing during your recent listening sessions?

If the dropouts do return, please provide the exact local time and date of the next occurrence. With that timestamp, we can immediately pull a fresh diagnostic report to see exactly what is happening in the USB path between your Zen Mini and the DAC at that precise moment.

We will keep an eye on your thread, so please let us know how it goes!

Still no dropouts since June 12th, so I am happy to close this thread.

Thank you for your time and assistance.
