Playback missing 2,600 tracks

So while trying to shuffle my entire library it seems to constantly cap off, losing around the 2600 songs mark. I’ve investigated doubles, rescanned the library. Even hit play via alphabetical and then scrolled all the way to the bottom of the queue, which ended at songs starting with “Mo”.

I then went back to the track page, put it in alphabetical and scrolled down past there, and everything plays fine, so none of the tracks past that point have any playback issue. Any idea why my playback is being capped to around 5000 tracks? Does Roon limit how many tracks are played when you press “Shuffle All”? If so thats kinda unfortunate.. Is there a work around if thats the case? According to Chat GPT Roon does not cap this feature but I honestly don’t know what else is causing the issue. Thanks.

Because that is the Q limit. And has been for awhile, just search Queue 5000 and read posts from years ago.

Shuffle still limited to 5000” Is the Feature Request for upping the limit. Add your vote, if you want.

Thanks. I went and did that.

I would love this number to be boosted. I could still be using my old iPod for playback hooked into my system if I knew this was going to cap me at a queue of 5000. Bought a lifetime sub, and I do love the software but missing out on a large portion of my library per queue cycle is highly annoying. Do note it’s playing almost constantly, and only capping at 5000 means I hear a few repeats each week when I have to reshuffle the list.

You could make a smart playlist that filters out all tracks you have listened to the past week/month. This way the list should stay fairly fresh and without repeats.

I haven’t used the smart playlist function. Generally stay away from those kinda “smart” features on apps or software but maybe it’s worth a look.

I never use playlists either. I like just having everything on a shuffle.

I wonder why the queue is capped? I’d assume it’s to maintain some sort of faster functionality? Would be nice if it was an option though, to playthrough everything.

The smart playlist is far from perfect, but they are quite good and I use them when I can’t decide on what album to play.

my main usage,

  • Focus on picks and never played. This pulls tracks that is marked as a pick by metadata (could be AllMusic, I’m not entirely sure) that I have not played.
  • all my unplayed tracks by decade
  • all my hearted tracks by decade/genre

I would assume its capped at 5000 for performance reasons.

I think because the Queue uses memory and RoonServer will crash the moment the memory is used up. So, I can see why a Shuffle ALL unlimited Queue, would never be implemented, there are users with 10s of thousands, or 100s of thousands of tracks.

As to why 5k, I suspect that the cutoff was set so that the lowest denominator RoonServer wouldn’t immediately crash. But, in all the years, Roon has never commented on why that value was set.
