I started a support ticket a few months back about Roon randomly stopping playback. The problem was solved but I think its returned - maybe with this latest update? the screenshot shows the last time it stopped playback - maybe you can check on your side what happened at that point? Thank you!
From your account admin, I see your MacMini running production, while an instance of Roon Server that is running on your Macbook Pro is running early acces, you’ll want to reinstall Roon from the downloads page on that machine as well, and you should be all set.
Sorry but on my system, installing from the link you sent gives me a DMG that replaces the Roon remote software, but not the Roon server software. How do I revert the Roon server to the production version please? Also ,how do I opt out of early access? I am still getting update notifications in Roon for the Early access versions, so if I hit update, Roon auto updates to the early access version. Thanks
When you opened and dragged over the Roon app from the production .dmg, was RoonServer closed from the taskbar? The RoonServer application is a bit hidden in the taskbar area, so if it was running at the time, it may have been failing to overwrite because of the already-running RoonServer instance in the background.
Once you are back on the Production track, the notifications to install Early Access updates will cease.
To confirm, when playback stops, do you also lose connection to your endpoint/ audio device?
Your local network is still very much involved here - can you give us a more detailed breakdown of your network chain? How is your server connected to your router?
Could you please temporarily test out a direct Ethernet connection to your primary router and let me know if the same issue occurs?
Hi Benjamin., If the network is involved, it shouldn’t be. The Roon server and the Roon software are both installed on the same laptop. I occasionally stream from a different laptop, but when the stopping occurs, it’s when Im listening on the same machine. Please can you explain what you mean when you say “the network is very much involved”?
I believe that when the stop occured this last time I did indeed loose the endpoint connection, but it has stopped in the past and the endpoint connection is still connected. Some sometimes one thing, sometimes another thing.
Many thanks
Matt
For Roon, the network is always involved, even on a local endpoint connection. This is because RAATServer uses localhost to communicate with devices, and when there is a network issue, it can impact the RoonServer → RAATServer connectivity. Can you clarify your network setup please? Is your router on the latest firmware version?
We’re seeing two different instances of Roon Server on different macOS machines - are you seeing the same issue no matter the device?
Feel free to share the specific track name the next time you experience playback stopping, as well as which machine you’re running Roon Server on at the time of the stoppage.
ah dammit, I installed Roon server on a second machine but never use it, although its in the startup items of that machine so was actually running. I will uninstall. It “Should” only be on the one machine. Will report back
