Hello,
I'm getting the same error again as I did in February 2026. After switching the output to my Cambridge streamer (which worked) and then switching back to the built-in Windows 11 audio playback, I'm getting the message “Too many interruptions; playback has been stopped” again. I've already checked the firewall settings, and I don't know of any other solution. Why doesn't Roon work reliably on Windows 11?

best regards
Michael

Hello @Michael_Herzog,

Thanks for reaching out to our Support.

We have checked the diagnostics report from your Windows PC and were able to confirm that the problem is caused by a format conflict between Roon and the Windows audio mixer. Specifically, when routing audio through the default “System Output”, Roon is attempting to play standard 16-bit audio, but the Windows mixer is rejecting this specific format. Furthermore, using “System Output” prevents Roon from utilizing Exclusive Mode to take direct control of your audio hardware, which leads to the “Too many interruptions” error.

In order to resolve it, we recommend bypassing the Windows default mixer entirely by taking the following steps:

  1. In Roon, navigate to Settings > Audio and disable the System Output zone.
  2. Under the "Connected to this PC" section, find your specific physical audio device (for example, Realtek High Definition Audio via WASAPI) and enable it directly.
  3. Click the gear icon next to this newly enabled device, select Device Setup, and toggle on Exclusive Mode.
This will grant Roon direct access to your audio hardware, allowing it to manage playback and switch sample rates automatically without any interference from the operating system.

Thanks.

Please let us know if that’s helpful.

Hello,

thank you for the answer

WASAPI don’t work here at all. I try it very often

sorry but i don’t find the option you provided there is no “connect to this PC Section” at all

Why should I disable the System output zone if I want to play back via the W11 System Audio driver?

What is a gear icon ? Do you have an example?

best regards

Michael

Hi @Michael_Herzog,

Your first screenshot is what we’re referring to - all your audio device options under (PC) in your audio settings.

To confirm, you attempt to enable your WASAPI output options under your (PC) devices, and it fails? What fails specifically, can you include more information or errors you see?

Once you enable a zone, you can access it’s settings via the cogwheel / gear icon - it’s shown in your first screenshot again:

From there, access your advanced settings and enable ‘exclusive mode’ - you may want to try this with your WASAPI output as well.

Thank you!

Hello

thank you for the anwer

First of all I had to reinstall the RealTek audio driver 2.82 to get it working. Now I’ve enabled both RealTek WASAPI options because the first one didn’t work.

What is a zone? What is it used for? for what do i need private mode

i found exclusive Mode if i activate it and choose Decoder and Renderer no Sound is played
i have no idea what that means…

Hello i checked it using Google KI and now i understand more
about the Soundprocessing, MUSE etc in Roon and about my
RealTek Audio Hardware

it says the option i marked was the reason for the “too many interruptions”
Error i dont tested it so far because “never change a running system”

best regards
Michael

Hello @Michael_Herzog,

It sounds like you’ve done some great detective work with your local AI assistant! You are absolutely on the right track regarding that setting in your Windows 11 screenshot.

In your third screenshot, the red box is around “Audioverbesserungen” (Audio Enhancements).

You should definitely turn this “Aus” (Off). Here is why: Windows 11 often tries to apply its own processing (like “spatial sound” or volume leveling) to the audio stream. When Roon tries to send a high-quality stream to your RealTek hardware, these Windows “enhancements” can cause a timing conflict. This is exactly what triggers the “Too many interruptions” error—the Windows mixer is essentially tripping over Roon’s data.

Addressing your “Decoder and Renderer” question

In your fourth screenshot, you have the MQA setting set to “Decoder und Renderer.”

  • The Reality: Your built-in RealTek audio chip on the motherboard is not an MQA-certified device.
  • The Fix: You should change this setting to “Keine MQA-Unterstützung” (No MQA Support).

When you tell Roon the device is a “Decoder and Renderer,” Roon sends a specific bitstream that your RealTek chip doesn’t know how to translate, which is why you aren’t hearing any sound when you toggle that on.

  1. In Windows: Keep those “Audioverbesserungen” set to Aus (Off).
  2. In Roon Device Setup: Set MQA to “Keine MQA-Unterstützung.”
  3. Exclusive Mode: If you want the best sound, keep Exclusive Mode ON. This tells Windows to “step aside” and let Roon talk directly to the hardware.

Since it’s working now, I agree with your “never change a running system” philosophy! However, if the interruptions return, the two steps above are your “silver bullets” to fix it.

Hello,

Unfortunately, Roon isn’t working again after I updated Audials ONE 2026, which I consider a routine procedure. Here’s everything I’ve tried to get Roon running:

1. Latest RealTek driver

2. Exclusive mode enabled

3. Private mode enabled

4. Tried RealTek ASIO

5. Tried RealTek WASAPI

7. Roon is running.

7. Roon is broken—too many glitches… we’ve seen this before

8. Now I’ve reinstalled the RealTek Audio Driver 6.0.9.6400.1

Lesson learned: Roon is so bad or sensitive—whatever you want to call it—under Windows 11 that once Roon is running, it’s best never to touch the W11 system again or install any updates, because then Roon stops working. And for that, you’re supposed to pay 150 euros a year—that’s 12.50 euros a month for hassle, frustration, and troubleshooting. No thanks, Roon. I’m canceling my Roon subscription and will focus on other music software that runs stably on Windows 11—River Media Center 35, for example, which works even when you update other software.

GOODBY ROON HAVE A GOOD TIME WITHOUT ME

Hi @Michael_Herzog,

I’m sorry to hear you’re running into more issues after updating third-party software, although based on what Audials ONE 2026 appears to be, I’m not sure how it’s being used alongside Roon.

We’d be happy to continue troubleshooting if you’d be able to provide more information regarding the use of Audials One.

Thank you!
