Today, during playback, it suddenly stopped and I couldn't find the core. I had to shut down the power and restart it. This has happened repeatedly. What could be the cause? Is it a software issue or a hardware problem?
Describe your network setup
I am using the optical modem from China Telecom, with an R4S soft router and a Netgear Orbi 752 for wireless extension. I have tried to restart all of the above devices, but the problem persists.
We’ve requested diagnostics from the affected RoonServer instance to see what the unit reports as the cause of the dropouts in logs. Logs show RoonServer restarting cyclically without an obvious cause - this can sometimes be an indication of a hardware malfunction, but we’d like to verify what BIOS-level diagnostics say first.
I recommend opening the Nucleus Web Administration page to verify that RoonServer isn’t restarting in the background (the time since RoonServer last started should be visible - make sure it corresponds to a known restart).
Before you lose connection to the RoonServer, do you notice any errors, missing content, slow loading, or other problems in Roon?
It appeared three times before I submitted the support request. Everything has been normal since I submitted it. I can restart normally through the web management page now. But when the problem occurred, I tried to restart it and failed. I had to restart it by manually pressing the hardware button.
There were no signs or any visible abnormalities before the device suddenly stopped playing.
But I forgot to check the uptime when I opened the web page just now. I will pay attention and observe it today, and then get back to you.
This thread will close for now, but please reach out in a new topic thread if issues return.
Your ISP, China Telecom, implements architecture that blocks requests to certain upstream servers required for Roon’s background processes. If you’re using a VPN with Roon, please recognize that we’re unable to assist with traversal of ISP implementation due to geographic restriction, but you can post in Tinkering. This would concern issues with reaching upstream servers (login, metadata, streaming services, and others), but not device discovery issues, which we’re troubleshooting here.
Based on the wireless stages in the topology you’ve presented, I recommend verifying that multicast forwarding and IGMP snooping are toggled on in the mesh settings. You’ll need to ensure that no settings restrict multicast traffic from forwarding through the mesh network - this is crucial for Roon’s device discovery for both remotes and endpoints.
