The last update was not a great move.
I had to reinstall Roon client several times.
Application just won’t open.
Turned off automatic updates but it still updates.
Roon Server and Roon App on same window device; playing local on PC is not possible anymore, the zone is not visible anymore.
Please open your own support ticket, filling in all requested information, rather than piling on an existing one - Roon’s support prefers to handle issues in separate threads.
Hi @Bram_Van_Scharen, to receive appropriate help, it would be really helpful if you could complete the template provided below.
You can copy and paste it in your reply.
Please be sure to include details of your core, network, storage location of your media files, and any messages displayed by Roon.
Including these details in your first post helps resolve your issues faster.
Thank you.

Are you able to play audio from the system output of the windows machine outside of Roon? If you could share a screenshot of your Roon Settings>Audio
that would be helpful.
I’ll be on standby for a status update. Thanks!
Hi Ben,
I spend a lot of time to gather the information you requested, to backup - re-install the server and client to see if this solved anything Find a way to make a screen record etc.
I checked my videocard drivers and did research to see if i can find a solution.
What a wast of my time.
Why do you take away this feature and push people to upgrade?
I tried to avoid the update because it caused instability and disabled a feature that i use a lot.
During the day when working i use the local zone to listen music while working in the evening i listen to music on my stereo.
What is the reason to take away this possibility?
I can only conclude Roon is not for me anymore
PS: the screen recording with the local zone disappearing can not be uploaded here …
Can you provide more detail with what you mean? Roon hasn’t taken away any features related to playing audio from a remote device. I also see that you’re already active with your Roon license, are you seeing screens asking you to upgrade?
If yes, you may be signed into another account. Please double-check that you’re using your proper email address from Roon Settings>General
- Signed In As
Let me know your findings (but don’t post your email to the thread for privacy reasons.) Thanks!
Hi Ben,
There is misunderstanding about the feature of playing offline from my side.
I understood there was a confirmation the feature did not exist anymore, but I read it incorrectly.
Yes i can play music from the local machine in other applications e.g. Qobuz
In Roon the “local machine / zone” does not appear anymore (screenshot attached), so I can also not select it anymore to play music below right.
Sometimes it shows for less than 1 second, that’s why I made the screen-recording (which I can not post here
In settings - general I can see the correct email, when clicking on “view account info” I can see this is Roon subscription I have and it is still active until April 2024.

Is your Roon Core running on another device/PC from the “local PC”?
No, is the same machine
Hmm - normally the disappearance of Audio devices on a PC can be caused by the Windows Firewall losing the exceptions for raatserver.exe - but this is usually seen when the Core is on another device from the PC running the Roon UI.
You could check the Firewall exceptions just to make sure…
Thanks Geoff,
Checked but I can not see any problems with firewall exceptions.
Also turned Windows Firewall completly off, reboot of PC and checked, same problem.
FYI : The local zone appears for less than a second and then dissapears for a few seconds
I did not change anything on my PC settings, the problem started with the latest Roon update.
Any other suggestions?
I think we’re going to have to wait until @benjamin can take a look at the logs of your Core…
Thank you for looking into it Geoff.
PS : Ben can look at the logs or do i have to sumbit / export them?
Benjamin should be able to pull the logs remotely.
Thanks for the update!
And with that, if you’d like, we can enable diagnostics mode for your account, which will send over a set of logs from your Core device automatically, and then upload to our servers for analysis. You’ll need to bring your core device online and make sure it’s connected to the network.
If you’d rather do it yourself manually, please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader.
Thank you Ben,
The Zip file with all log files has been uploaded at “Roon Log Uploader”
@Bram_Van_Scharen.zip
Thanks for sending those over. Our initial scan didn’t prove to show anything out of the ordinary, if possible can you also review the audio midi settings of your PC while you load up Roon, and see if your local outputs also change from the system settings?
I’d also test out hardwiring your core PC directly to your router, bypassing any switches and other gear.
Lastly, let’s refresh your RAAT server database to ensure things are functioning on a clean slate:
- Create a Backup of your current Roon database
- Exit out of Roon
- Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
- Find the folder that says “RAATServer”
- Rename the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old”
- Restart the Roon App to generate a new RAATServer folder
Let me know if your issues persist after the above. Thanks!
Dear Ben,
Thank you for taking the time to review the logs.
The issue is solved with your advise to check the PC Audio Settings switching.
I completly forgot something; a USB speaker on the PC rhat runs the client / server.
Rebooted the PC, started Roon again, which allowed me to view and enable the local zone again.
Everything works fine again if i leave the speaker out of it.
I wish i rememberd the USB device earlier, did not know it had an impact on Roon.
Thank you for your support, you really made my day!
best regards,
Bram
