I think it safe to say that Roons playlist export process is kluge at best. Working for a Hi Fi shop, I wanted to export all of existing showroom playlists so that I could browse through them at home.
After exporting 50 some off playlists into the Excel format, it was clear that this wasn’t a complete process and so I ventured off into the Roon forums where I need to sort through War and Peace to arrive at a possible solution which is still trial and error at best and yields incomplete lists. I don’t wish to use Soundiiz and honestly feel that a proper Excel data base export and import should suffice from one Roon system to another.
Therefore, for myself as well as the rest of us who may want to take a playlist with us from one system and put it into our home Roon system, I am asking for the simplest instructions possible without having to use secondary software. I know that Roon has stated that they don’t really use playlists, but I really don’t know anyone who doesn’t.
We use both Tidal and Qobuz and the Playlists are comprised of music from both services. I am looking for the Roon vision on how they thought this was supposed to happen as they have allocated an export function. I initially exported to Excel thinking that detail would be enough but to no avail. Since we sell and support Roon clients within the business I work for, I am looking for clarification as we have no direct Roon rep or line of communication to help us with these matters other than this forum.
Agreed. If there is an excel out there should be an excel in.
I remembered that there is also share playlist on tidal and qobuz. I would use focus on the playlist and focus on the location to split the playlist. And for tidal if I add a shared playlist, roon does update the playlist when the owner makes changes but I cannot do changes.
Hi @jamie, @noris,
This chap states he works at a dealership, I thought dealerships had a dedicated Roon support line. Do you have advice to give to him?
I think it’s good for us to use the forums like everyone else to see what the experience is like. Without segregating playlists using focus and such, there really needs to be a simpler way to grab a playlist on the fly.
