Playlists and CD Rips Not Transferring to SGCi7 CDR on Windows 11 (ref#51N6H0)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· Music won’t play or issues with my library

Music won’t play or issues with my library

· Local files won't import or appear

Tell us what's going on

· I have Roon on my Windows 11 Desktop, and cannot get my playlists to transfer to my new SGCi7 CDR. Also, CD rips on the SGC i7 are not showing up. System set up: Cox Isp>Arris S34 Modem>Araknis AN-220 Router>Small Green Computer Sonictransporter i7CDR server>NAD M33. Tried saving backup from desktop to thumb drive but no playlists show up. Tried making backup to Dropbox and Dropbox shows backup complete but can't get it to upload to SGC i7. Help?

Hey @Cynthia_Retter,

Thanks for the details and for sharing your report. We were able to review a fresh set of Roon Server logs as well.

Good news first: nothing is broken on the SGC side, and your restores are actually succeeding. The issue is which backup is being restored.

When I look at the two restores in your logs:

  • The Dropbox backup (made June 18) restores to an almost-empty library, only 16 tracks and 2 albums, with 48 playlists that are just your TIDAL/Qobuz streaming playlists syncing back from the cloud. This backup doesn't contain your real library or personal playlists, which tells me it was taken from a fresh or different Roon database on your desktop rather than the one you actually use.
  • The thumb-drive backup restores to a fuller library (6,781 tracks) but it's an older snapshot from April 11 with only 11 playlists. I also see that the folder you copied onto the thumb drive wasn't recognized as a valid Roon backup, so Roon skipped it.
Because a restore replaces your entire database each time, restoring either of these is what makes your playlists look like they've disappeared.

Here’s how to get everything across cleanly:

  1. On your Windows desktop, open Roon and confirm your playlists are all there, this is your source of truth.
  2. From that same Roon, go to Settings → Backups → Back Up Now and make a fresh backup. Glance at it to confirm it looks complete.
  3. Restore that new backup to the SGC once, then leave it be. Restoring any additional or older backups afterward will overwrite it again.
  4. After the restore, give the library scan a few minutes to finish. Your CD rips (I can see them on the SGC's storage, the Slim Man and Stevie Ray Vaughan albums) will reappear automatically once the scan completes.
The rips themselves are fine and being read correctly; they were just getting wiped each time an older database was restored over them.

Give that a try and let me know how it goes. Thank you! :folded_hands:

Thanks…the issue seems to be restoring any full new backup to the new computer…can’t make that happen…and is why we tried thumb drive and then dropbox transfer…

Any specific instructions that we can try?
Thanks!

Hi @Cynthia_Retter,

Thanks for the reply. We’ll need a bit more details around when the failure is happening to provide additioanl troubleshooting steps.

Were you able to perform a fresh backup from the original server on your Windows machine?

If both dropbox and the thumb drive you have failed, do you have a separate drive you’d be able to try?

When you attempt to restore the backup through your SGC, at what point is it failing? The more information you can provide the better.

Thank you!

Our computer guy was able to successfully backup to Dropbox and transfer for us to new computer so we are set. Your email was very helpful. FYI , Network transfer and thumb drive options did not work, So glad to have our play lists back!
