Playlists are repeating songs before end of list

Hi,
I make playlists with a lot of songs: 12 hours and more. What can i say, i just love music.
My problem is this: some songs are played more than others.
The plays are counted so is it possible to make this even before repeating?
I want to hear all songs from the list before some songs are repeated.

You’ve checked using the “show duplicates” that they aren’t duplicates?

Yes, i did. There is a counter also in there and some songs have 0 plays. Against 10 times played. And all in the same list. Songs that i don’t have in other lists.

@Henk_Rozendaal
You haven’t got it set on shuffle?

Yes, i have it on shuffle. Why?
Does that make a difference?
When i play the same playlist with ARC i get other songs

I have it on shuffle because i don’t want always the same songlist like LP’s.
A playlist consists of favorit songs and i want to be surprised of what song is coming.

I don’t know how shuffle has been programmed in Roon but try turning it off and see if it solves the problem. If it is truly a random shuffle it could and is possible to pick the same track twice in a row.

Ah, no that is not what will help with my issue.

So the shuffle is so random that it repeats the same songs in 1 list and not completing the list before repeating. But still repeats the same songs.
That is a pity. I had hoped the random would work better than Tidal, Spotify, CD-Player.
Is there a way to get this solved with an update?
Please?

Thanks for your reactions! RodS

How much time do you spend listening to your 12 hour playlist in one session? Do you start over for each listening session, or hold the queue intact?

Hi Martin,
I sometimes can listen for 4 hours sometimes 7 hours: with some songs allready repeating.
And some songs are still on 0 (sero) plays.

That’s what random means really. If it’s a long playlist then many will be zero plays.

To my mind, truly random would not be a good implementation of shuffle. I mean, truly random might also repeat the first song a thousand times - with very low probability, but nothing else prevents this in a truly random implementation.

Surely the initial selection of the next play candidate may be random but then there should be additional checks throwing out repetitions

There’s always been debates about what random/shuffle means. Damned either way I think :slightly_smiling_face:
This is the sort of option screen we could do with

Yeah but there is a wide range between this and a dumb simply random implementation

As far as I can see, shuffle behaves correctly, i.e., it takes the playlist and shuffles like a deck of cards.

My largest playlist is 10 hours, and no track added to the queue is repeated. This is why I asked if the playlist is resumed, or started over. If you keep hitting shuffle on the playlist, I would expect it to start over, which means you’ll hear some tracks again.

I start sometimes a new list because my mood has changed (for example i’m now in the mood for Blues, not Rock Ballads) with a new list i push shuffle. And here should be a choice.

A simple option or question from the Roon systeem like: Do you want to continue the list with this Last Played Que?
Or a setting on shuffle: How do you want it to work - Completly random
- Play all songs in list before repeating songs

This would mean a lot to a lot to me and maybe for a lot of Roon users.

So Roon isn’t repeating tracks during a single session?

This would be a request in Feature Suggestions.

Yes it is. And there are no duplicates.

  • the ‘next’ session repeats the same songs.
    While others are never played.

So is there a solution for this?
In an update?

Reshuffle the playlist.

Can you please demonstrate this since I cannot reproduce with my long playlists.

However, if a partially play a list, switch to another, and then return to the original, having press shuffle again, some tracks are repeated.

But this is expected behaviour.

If you don’t want this, don’t destroy the queue, and use add next when playing something else.
