Thanks for writing in and sorry for the delay here!
A few follow-up questions for you:
- If you hardwire a different DAC to your current Mac core, does the same issue occur?
- If you temporarily move your core to another device (I see you have a Macbook Pro available) does the same pop issue occur?
- If you perform a factory reset on the Michi P5, does the issue still occur?
- If you connect the P5 over wifi or another method other than hardwiring or USB, does the issue still occur?

After several weeks of trouble shooting with Rotel. I believe the problem is solved. For some reason the DSD setup settings were not installed on my machine. In addition, my PC-USB port was not responding to a firmware upgrade. FineSounds/Rotel sent me a new machine that they verified had all the SW. And just like that the problem is resolved. Through all this FineSounds and Rotel were super helpful and gave me excellent service. I am not sure why those problems existed but I may have had an early unit. Now that it is working, I must say the quality via the PB-USB port is outstanding. Thanks again to all that pitched in on this community site. I do hope someday Roon will have a phone number and tech support.
