Post-update limited to 44.1kHz resolution on QNAP setup (ref#PIUTUN)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· With help from the Roon Techs we got it set up in container station on Qnap. Now unfortunately, we only get a resolution of 44.1khz. I have tried everything that I can think of. We routinely got 24/192 before the update process. I am pretty sure that with all of the difficulty I had updating, I must have done something wrong in the updating process, so I will attach a couple of screenshots. I have the Qnap 453 Be connected to the Douk U2 Pro (2025), then going to the distributed audio Anthem Mdx 16 amp. Thank you for any help or insight you can offer.

Hi @Jeffrey_Gilliam,

Thanks for the screenshots and for laying out the setup so clearly. Since you were previously getting 24/192 and are now limited to 44.1 kHz after the update, we’d like to narrow down where the change is happening.

Can you please share a screenshot of the Signal Path when this happens? We’d also like to know what Device Setup shows for the zone’s maximum sample rate. Finally, please list the exact local time, date, and track the next time you’re able to reproduce the issue, so we can compare with diagnostics on our end.

Thank you for the quick response. Here you go.

#1. 5/5/26 Sade (Smooth Operator) MQA toggled off- No MQA support checked Th time is in the upper right corner. 3:30 pm pacific time

#2 Sade- Smooth operator. MQA toggled on. Please let me know if there is anything else that would help. 5/5/26 3:49 Pacific time

Hey @Jeffrey_Gilliam,

Thanks for the update!

The good news first: Your DSP/Sample Rate Conversion config is correctly set up and is working. The logs confirm Roon is successfully upsampling to 192kHz — for example, on 5/5 the DIGITAL 1 zone was confirmed sending 24/44 TIDAL FLAC => 24/192 through the HIFI USB AUDIO device (your Douk U2 Pro). The DSP ruleset explicitly maps every input rate to 192kHz output, which is all correct.

We did however see that the Hifi audio device config changed between sessions.

In an earlier log (5/2), the HIFI USB AUDIO device had “dsd_mode”: “native” and “max_dsd_sample_rate_multiplier”: 64.

In the most recent session (5/7), those settings disappeared — “dsd_mode”: “none” and no DSD multiplier. This suggests the device’s stored configuration was partially reset during the update process, which can cause unexpected format negotiation behavior.

We’re also seeing the logs from 5/7 show hundreds of repeated [raat/tcpaudiosource] connect failed: Connection refused on port 43865. This is the RAAT audio streaming port. Roon Server is trying to push audio to a RAAT endpoint but the port is not accepting connections.

If you could, please verify the container port mapping for the RAAT service. In QNAP Container Station:

  • Open the Roon Server container settings
  • Confirm that port 9003 (RAAT discovery) and the dynamic audio ports are not being blocked or remapped
  • The failing port 43865 is a dynamically assigned RAAT audio port — if Container Station is using a strict port whitelist, dynamic ports may be getting blocked
  • Try restarting the container completely (not just Roon Server) and confirm the RAAT server starts cleanly

I’d also confirm DSD Playback Strategy matches what you want within the device settings(DoP or Native, not none — this was changed at some point)

Also, in Settings → Audio → [HIFI USB AUDIO gear] → Device Setup:

  • Set MQA Capabilities to Renderer Only (since the Douk U2 Pro handles the second unfold/rendering, but Roon needs to do the first unfold/Core Decode)
  • This will allow Roon to unfold MQA to the full native sample rate before sending it to the DAC

Thank you! :+1:
