Describe the issue

My old server died and I've just started up a Roon Nucleus. In the app when I click on "Select a different Roon server" I get a message that I "won't be able to access the music I had before" Does this mean all of my playlists are lost?

Describe your network setup

Nucleus server and Lumin P1 mini streamer. All working OK as they did with my previous server

Hi @Steven_Lefley,

Provided you have followed Roon’s Migration Guide all should be well.

The message is just a warning that switching to a different server means disconnecting from the current one.

Don’t I need the old server to be able to migrate the data? It’s not functioning.

Restore a backup from the old server to the new server.

As @Jim_F says, you need to restore a Roon database backup (that was taken when your server was still functional).

If you don’t have a backup then unfortunately you will have to start from scratch reconfiguring Roon and recreating play lists etc.

You also need to make your music files accessible to the new Roon server.

To guide you on this we need more info:

  1. Where the music files are stored
  2. Do you have a backup of these files, and if so where
  3. How will your new Roon Server access these files

Hi @Steven_Lefley,

Please see the responses above. Restoring a recent Backup to the new machine will retain all your database settings and, once you’ve connected any networked/local storage locations, your Roon library as well.

If you don’t have a Backup, you will need to re-import your local library and resync your streaming service accounts to a new Roon database. Any playlists you had created within Roon and not a streaming service will, unfortunately, require rebuilding.

Thank you, Steve
