Power off ROCK/NUC ....... but later it turns on again by it self

I have noticed a strange thing.

I power ROCK/NUC off every night before I go to sleep with an app (http://rock.local/1/poweroff). It works fine.

BUT when I wake up at night my ROCK/NUC has turn on again by it self. If happens almost every night.

Non of my other PC’s do that - it is only my ROCK/NUC.

What could the problem?

Thanks

Torben

Intel NUC have an auto on feature in the BIOS. If the NUC loses power etc, this feature turns the machine on automatically (Ie for server and remote access situations). Check it’s not active.

Another possibility is that the NUC BIOS has Wake-on-LAN enabled (which it probably has by default) and some other machine on the LAN is sending a Wake-on-LAN command to the NUC’s MAC address. Seems unlikely because this would have to be set up by someone and you probably would know, but it’s a possibility.

@Suedkiez - I have Wake-On-LAN enabled in the router and using the app “Wake Me Up - Wake-on-LAN” in the morning (if it is not already on  )

“Start this computer automatically as soon as it is accessed from the internet” is enabled

This is for starting the NUC from outside the LAN, while regular WOL is accessible only on the LAN. I think if this is checked, the Fritzbox sends a WOL signal on the LAN if there is a connection attempt to this device coming from the internet.

Maybe this is caused by a periodic access from the ARC app? Does the behavior stop if you uncheck this?

I have disabled it:

Will set what happens

I have had the exact same experience. Fritzbox as well. I turned on the setting you show when ARC was launched to be able to turn on my NUC when I am not at home. I never used it. However, some weeks ago I also noticed that the NUC turned itself on at night. WHat in hell… Since I turned off this feature it hasn’t happened, as far as I am aware.
I never questioned what it who would try to access my NUC at night… strange.

Yes - it only happens at night :frowning: Strange

Maybe it’s running during the day anyway and you wouldn’t notice? As you wrote “I power ROCK/NUC off every night before I go to sleep”

@Suedkiez - Tonight will be the first test. I will report back

You should try and stay awake, sitting next to it. So you know the exact time it happens. Then repeat for three weeks and see if there is pattern. Knowledge is sometimes hard to come by

Great suggestion  LOL  You probably did the same

Just run a ping on another PC to the NUC’s IP without a timeout and redirect the output into a file, you will see the exact time stamp when it starts responding

Damn. And I sat there for three weeks straight, each night… I should have studied computer science…

And without music!

@Suedkiez @Coltrane

It did fix the problem. My ROCK/NUC did not turn on by it self last night.

But now I can’t turn my ROCK/NUC when I am not at home :frowning:

Torben

I just leave it on, the power usage is minimal …

@Suedkiez - Sure I could do that. But why do ARC has to turn my ROCK/NUC on? I find that very strange.

Have a nice week

I don’t know, but if there’s a periodic check from the Roon server to the Core, e.g. if it’s still available at the known IP, that could cause it

I use the auto restart function to restart my NUC after a power outage. I can now hide the NUC as I no longer need to manually switch it on .
