I have just ordered a Project Pre Box S2 Digital just to use as a headphone amp in my bedroom. I want a simple solution to using this, I.e. not plugging into a laptop, I was hoping as it’s advertised as Roon Ready that I wouldn’t need anything else however that doesn’t appear to be the case.
I have a RaspberryPi with Justboom Dac Hat running Ropieeee which I was using to drive headphones in the bedroom.
Can I plug the Project into a USB port on the Pi and use it like that for now?
I will be looking to get a digi Hat or similar in the future.
Yes, this will work. For the future, add the Allo DigiOne to your list of hats to consider.
Make sure that USB audio is checked in the RoPieee webinterface.
Thanks for the replies. All arrived and hooked up.
Now if I connect the S2 Digital to the Pi via USB I can see it in Roon. If I plug in via USB or coax it disappears.
Is there a way to use it with the Justboom Digi Hat output but with the Project S2 seen as an endpoint?
Roon won’t see any DAC connected via S/PDIF; but it should see the the Pi (Ropieee) as an endpoint. Make sure that Ropieee is configured correctly for the JustBoom Digi HAT. You’ll need to configure Roon so MQA rendering is done by the DAC.
Not sure why you mention USB in this sentence since you state that this works
.I was just wondering if I had wasted money on the Digi Hat when I couldn’t use the Project as an endpoint.
