In the past, when I updated any metadata (eg.change of artwork or correcting a typo) for any files in my library (I use MP3Tag), the updated data would appear in Roon within seconds. Now, for some reason, probably a change in an update, these edits do not appear in Roon now at all and the only way I can get the changes I want is to delete the album and reimport it with the changed metadata. This is not good.
Where is your Roon Server running and how big (amount of tracks) is your local library?
Automatic instant metadata updates only happen if Roon Server gets informed about changes (from the underlying OS).
What of the other ways (rescan) did you try and none of them work?
My Roon server is running on Windows 11 and there are 28356 tracks in my library.
I tried rescanning from the Edit Album/Reanalyse button but that didn’t work. Forcing a full rescan from the Settings/Storage button did so thanks for the suggestion. I had forgotten that way of doing it.
I’m glad you found a less tiresome way to accomplish your goal.
I think the Re-Analyze button does something else and is supposed to not work for what you wanted it to do. The Re-Scan button is presumably the right one. Here I want to mention though that you wouldn’t be the first one claiming it doesn’t work IIRC.
It has a setting somewhere IIRC that tells it to preserve dates on the files it changes – this may play into the issue if set (why Re-Scan doesn’t work for example). Please check and tryout different settings.
Note: There is also the possibility that Roon changed or developed a bug over time. Official support / QA may need to look into this too.
That may well be the case as this issue has never occurred before and my Roon installation hasn’t changed in the last year since I migrated it from my old QNAP TS-251 to my much faster Windows machine. Up until now any change I made in MP3Tag percolated through to Roon in seconds without any kind of intervention being required. Incidentally, the “Preserve file modification time when saving changes” option in my installation of MP3Tag is unchecked.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
