Hi,
Not sure how much detail to go into but it simply, no sound comes out the amp when Roon thinks it’s playing.
Airplay works fine.
Was just on and off at the start then not at all.
I haven’t had the amp for long but Roon for ages.
Also it isn’t listed on the Roon list for Denon !!!
Maybe this list is out of date ?
You state it works via Airplay? This is Roon tested on Denons. Do not confuse the term Roon Ready with Roon Tested Roon tested means it has been tested using Airplay, Chromecast, Usb or HDMI. Roon Ready means Roons code is embedded in the device and it works in a very different way, no Denons are Roon Ready You won’t see it any other way in Roon other than as an Airplay device or as an output from a pc if using hdmi or USB if it’s full USB Audio compliant. As for it not being in Roons list then perhaps they likely haven’t tested it or are behind I see no mention of Roon Tested on their website, but it likely to still work as stated using the inputs I mentioned even if it doesn’t have this status.
Thanks for your quick response, really glad to go into the detail as these things are never simple hey.
Firstly I’m cored on an ethernet M1 Mac mini directly via HDMI to the 3700. I have the Mac mini next the the TV etc because I use it with my mojo via HDMI, Poly and 2 channel setup with my PS Audio mono blocks etc. (Only just getting back into the AV market)
Haven’t tried SPDIF yet and chromecast isn’t listed in Roon audio when attached this way.
I did try the Mac mini connected to the network via wifi only to see if makes any difference but it obviously just removed the 3700 from it’s attached to the core indication.
I’m interested in your comment on Roon tested to be only over Airplay, as I’m aware of the terminology with my MOJO being fully Roon Ready.
My supplier has this issue in with Denon engineers so will let you know when the answers come in.
Denon have released 2 firmware updates in as many weeks so they are fiddling with something but difficult to know what as I can’t find release notes anywhere.
Also additionally, last night as it was quickly skipping through my playlists I happened to be in Tidal and it stopped and played a track. I thought “what the”. It turned out that it does play MQA versions although obviously not showing on the Amp as MQA as i have this turned off and it shouldn’t be able to deal with native MQA.
I don’t know about you guys but it all points to firmware to me and the power they have to feature update more expensive models whilst problem solving…
All the same, it’s a real pain as I love Roon and have got very used to it over the years, with quite a large library of HD music, dsf’s included. Trying to get used to anything else is a real big step back in time.
The mojo isn’t Roon Ready so no idea where you get that from. The Poly and 2go that can attach to to Chord DACs are Roon Ready. Chord DACs alone are Roon tested. Denon isn’t Roon Ready they are Roon tested. They work over the network using Airplay onyl or wired as a DAC via HDMI. No firmware will change that. If it’s a Fully tested device which this one isn’t as it’s not listed you will only see it as an Airplay device under Other Network Devices. If it’s fully Roon tested it will still be using Ariplay but it shows up under Roon Tested as it’s been officially tested. If you direct connect via HDMI it will show up as connected to the core. This is the best way with your setup as you get the benefit of higher rates etc.
Thanks for the correction there my mistake I did of course mean the Poly.
From what you are saying the 3700 should at least show up as tested when not connected via hdmi.
Haven’t tried via USB though. Will give that some of my time if this is at all possible.
Will try to attach a capture.
Upon reading your reply again crystal as I replied a bit too quickly.
Interesting we have another category of Fully Roon Tested. Thanks for the info though. It does explain my situation.
Shame that it was not in the literature as I would of know this when I bought it and maybe wouldn’t have been under false impressions. I’m not a mad fan of Airplay due to its limitations.
Thanks again.
Thank you for getting in touch, and welcome to Community! We’re happy to have you but sorry to see that it was an issue that prompted your first post. We’d be happy to help figure this out!
The Denon X3700H hasn’t cleared Roon Tested certification yet, that’s why you’re not seeing it in the Roon Tested section of your Audio devices page. You’ll need to connect to that device via Airplay for now. Thanks!
