Description Of Issue
Hi There, I’ve seen similar, but not identical problems here. Couple of people have issues with Android devices, but they are using windows based computer as a server, and the problem was firewall on the PC.
I am using QNAP NAS drive as a server. It is Linux based. Updated regularly.
I can use Roon easily and smoothly when I access it from the Windows based PC or laptop. So the computer firewall should not be the issue.
However, in order to start Roon from Android, I have to go to the core on the server and force stop Roon. After that I will restart it again, and everything looks OK.
When I leave Rooon app on the Android (in order to do something else) connection is again lost. I have then to go again to the server, force stop it and restart again. It really is a pain.
If you’re making use of an Orbi router, we recommend unchecking Disable IGMP Proxying in your router’s settings. This setting can interfere with the ability for Roon Remotes to connect to the Roon Core.
Instead of restarting the server, if you press the “Help” button that appears after waiting on the screen for 60s and manually input the Core IP, does that work?
Hi Noris,
Thanks for your reply. I’ve tried to do exactly what you suggested, and the Roon works a bit better. It is not crashing every time I am doing something else on my tablet, but is crashing nevertheless. I again have to go to server, force stop Roon, and start it again.
I do not quite understand your second option. I do not know what is my Core IP. How do I find it, and where? Even it that works, that is not the best scenario, you must admit.
My settings on the Orbi router are:
Disable IGMP Proxying - unchecked
Support British Telecom (BT) IGMP Proxying - unchecked
Setup - Auto
MTU size 1500
NAT filtering - secured
Disable SIP ALG - unchecked
Hope this helps
Faris
Hi Again,
I am a bit disappointed that no one either in Roon support nor Roon community is able to help with this issue. I invested quite a lot of money in this set-up hoping to have a great music experience, and still cannot make it work. I am quite sure the solution is very simple.
There is an additional possibility. When I click on ‘help’, Roon article is suggesting enabling ‘Accepting connections from remotes’ in the setting. However, I am not able to find that option at all. Can anyone help?
Go into roon, settings, about and find the network address of your core server. It will look something like 192.168.1.04
Then the next time your android device can’t find the core the screen that tells you so has a sentence at the bottom with help in it.
Click on help and it will give you a box where you can type in the address you noted down. This should help establish a connection and from that point on you won’t need to do so again.
I’ve typed network address just once and tested connection couple of times (log-in and log-out). It really works! No problems so far. I am gearing up to enjoy Roon in full during the Christmas period.
Thanks a lot.
Thanks for letting us know that there has been an improvement since changing those settings and manually specifying the Core IP!
If you want, you can also go into your router settings and set up your Core’s IP as a Reserved Address so that your router assigns the same IP each time it renews the IP address pool.
In any case, please do let us know if you have any other difficulties with Roon and Happy Holidays!
