Hi @Jim_Fuerstenberg,

Thank you for your patience in awaiting a response from Roon.

It’s an odd issue you’re seeing. I have some ideas and I’ll list them by relevance to hopefully save you some time.

  1. Make sure your network is set to private on your core: How to change network settings from public to private? - Microsoft Q&A

  2. Set router DNS to Google’s. 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.4. This will be specific to your router. I found this article and hope it helps! How to Change the DNS servers on the wireless router and DSL modem router (New UI) | TP-Link

  3. Wire your core if you’ve not done so already. Wiring it to a wireless access point is not only not recommended but advised against.

  4. If you have an ISP-provided modem/router combo, put the modem into bridge mode so your Archer can take care of the routing exclusively.

  5. Make sure you’re connecting your devices to the same Wi-Fi network.

Otherwise, I see your core reporting to Roon’s account servers and it’s doing so quite quickly. One of these environmental variables is likely to be our culprit!

Thanks,
Wes

thank you for the suggestions

  1. it was set to private
  2. i logged into my router and changed the DNS as you suggested. the result was no different.
  3. my whole network is wired…the only wireless is from my phone/tablet to the network
  4. i have a router and modem which are separate and I purchased both…neither are ISP provided.
  5. I am on the same network.

unfortunately, we need another solution…

Hi @Jim_Fuerstenberg,

Thank you for reporting back. I’m trying to figure out another angle of attack. My diagnostics clearly show your core is online and reporting to Roon servers. When this happens we are normally able to see your internal IP addresses in the diagnostics but we only see this for your core and not your other devices.

Can you please try this for me? I will be meeting with our team tomorrow and hopefully, you can try this beforehand. This will clear the cache for the core’s communications with endpoints. Before restoring the backup, please test your remotes.

Note: Deleting these files will

  • Log you out of Tidal/Qobuz
  • Delete your endpoint names.
  • Delete saved DSP configs.

I did all you suggest…now my Pixel 7 will not find the core at all. I uninstalled and reinstalled the roon app and restarted roon and it found it like before once I restarted roon. I will see tonight if I can duplicate the original problem

Roon Ark was not affected at all. it finds the core every time.

Hi @Jim_Fuerstenberg,

I’m hoping all is well and that we were only dealing with corrupt cache files. Please do let me know. We have seen a couple of other situations similar to yours and we want to make sure you’re fixed!

Thanks,
Wes

Unfortunately it is not fixed Wes. I closed the Roon app and when I opened it again, it could not find the Core until I closed the Roon desktop program and opened it again.

Hi @Jim_Fuerstenberg,

I discussed this with our team and I only have a few of options to look at.

  1. Router issues. ie firmware update needed, power cycle etc.
  2. Corrupt SW

Here are the steps to rebuild everything Roon and I suspect this will do it. If not, contingency is our third option:

  • Create a Backup of your current Roon database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon” and “RAATServer”
  • Rename “Roon” to “Roon_old” and “RAATServer” to “RAATServer_old”
  • Reinstall Roon from our Downloads Page
  1. Use Roon server vs all in one remote/core. (here is the link for the Roon server install. Please keep in mind you will want to make a backup before you begin this.

Please let me know how things go. I definitely want you back to enjoying the music and will be happy to work with you if you get stuck.

Thanks,
Wes

router has been recently power cycled and AFAIK, it needs no update…

I will try to do the rebuild in the next few days and let you know how it goes.

re no.3…not sure what you mean. I have the roon core on my desktop pc and use my phone or tablet as the remote…i really only have one computer on which to install the roon core and roon desktop software. I will wait for you response before I rebuild Roon…

Hi @Jim_Fuerstenberg,

Roon Server is an alternative to using the all-in-one Roon core and remote SW on the PC. If you’re running Roon server, it’s non-dependant on the Roon interface being up and running.

Hopefully, the refresh will resolve things but it not, I wanted you to be armed with multiple angles of attack.

ok, thanks. i will try the other stuff first. If i do end up installing roon server, it would still be on the same computer as the roon core…are you suggesting that should I get to that point move the core to another core on the same computer?

HI @Jim_Fuerstenberg,

Roon Server for Windows will replace the “core” functions of Roon. Once you install it, you’ll log into the pre-existing instance of Roon, do a backup of your databases, then go to Roon>Settings>General and log out. You’ll then log back in and select the other instance of the core you just created and re-import your database.

This way, if you close Roon on the computer, Roon continues running and will be accessible from remotes on other computers and mobile devices so long as the PC stays on!

Thanks,
Wes

interesting…I performed the other steps you suggested and it seems to have worked…at least once last night. I will test over the next couple of days. If the problem persists, I will try roon server.

@Jim_Fuerstenberg,

That’s great news!

Let’s hope the fix is long-standing and the Roon Server option isn’t required. Let’s go ahead and consider this resolved but PLEASE do come back and let me know if the issue returns. I’ll be happy to assist you with configuring Roon Server if my instructions we’re clear enough.

Wes

Sounds good…it only worked one day so far…I hope it continues. Otherwise, we can try server. thanks!

Wes, the problem is back. Tonight, I had to close and open the desktop app for the android app to recognize the core

Hi @Jim_Fuerstenberg,

When this happens, are you experiencing any issues in using just the desktop app or do you know?

Thanks,
Wes

i dont usually use the desktop app to play music…just to organize files and add them to my library, but it seems to work fine whether or not the remote app works.

Hi @Jim_Fuerstenberg,

Let’s do this. If you could, please duplicate the issue and get me a date/time for the occurrence. We’ll use that to look at diagnostics logging and see what the core sees happening.

Regards,
Wes

ok…just did what you asked. tried to connect with the app at 10:50AM CT, it did not find the core; so I closed the windows app and restarted. The moblile app found the core at 10:51 CT
