Problems with Chord M-scaler

I have an Innuos Zenith as my Roon core running into an Innuos Phoenix reclocker running into a Chord DAVE. I recently added a Chord M-scaler into the chain between the reclocker and DAVE but Roon can’t see the m-scaler or DAVE. All of these are connected via USB except the dual BNC cables between the m-scaler and DAVE. Any suggestions how to correct this? Thanks.

Maybe take the reclocker out to see if the m scaler shows up.

If it was working between Phoenix and Dave, inserting M-Scaler in between shouldn’t cause any problem as long as M-Scaler is set for USB input and Dave for BNC input

If roon can’t see it, it means it can’t see the dac. I’m willing to bet the dave and mscaler aren’t talking properly. Follow the mscaler power up directions and make sure you do what tudupka said.

Hello All,

If roon can’t see it, it means it can’t see the dac. I’m willing to bet the dave and mscaler aren’t talking properly. Follow the mscaler power up directions and make sure you do what tudupka said.

The computer has no insight into the DAVE ↔ MScaler connection, it can only see the MScaler’s USB input.

Maybe take the reclocker out to see if the m scaler shows up.

I concur, your first step here is to determine if the MScaler is able to be seen by the core at all. I strongly recommend testing the MScaler using a Mac or a PC if you’re unable to get it working on the Innuos.

I checked all of my connections last night and confirmed that everything was hooked up correctly. The entire setup worked when I substituted the Zenith with my Macbook pro where Qobuz was able to see the m-scaler so that I was able to select it as my listening device. Taking out the reclocker as ged_hickman1 suggested did not solve the problem. So it looks like they problem is still coming from the Zenith/roon core device.

I didn’t mean that. Without a proper dac connection I didn’t think roon would see the mscaler by itself.

I did test my system as suggested by John using my Macbook pro and it was able to see/ connect to the m-scaler and Dave(mbp to reclocker to m scaler to DAVE). USB connections used except for the DBNC from M scaler to DAVE.

Hello @Kelvin_Lee,

I recommend reaching out to Innuos support, they will be best positioned to assist you with connecting the M-Scaler to their server.

Innuos support was superb! Nuno Vittorino the head guy at Innuos himself responded to my email, set up a remote session, and diagnosed that the problem was that M scaler was not enabled in Roon. It shows up but has to be manually enabled under the audio output settings(whereas DAVE just automatically shows up as a player in Roon whenever it is connected). It was a simple fix after all and everything works fine now.
