Describe the issue

Hi,
I like to exchange on my Nucleus the i3 processor with an i5 or i7 Processor. I know I will loose any warranty. Do you know if this will work.
Reason I have sometimes drop outs if I upsample to 768khz or DSD. The Processor usage went down to nearly 1, normally it is between 4-6. I have only one zone and only DSP volume control activated. My library has 18000 tracks. The Nucleus has the Serial #54B203831BDA.
Any other recommendations to fix my drop outs?

Describe your network setup

Netgear Network Switch, AVM 9500 DSL Router, Silent Angel Bonn N8 for Nucleus and Streamer, DAC e.g..

No way, no how will Roon give you any assistance on swapping out the i3-7100U CPU in the Nucleus. That is well outside the purview of Support.

You may find an i5-7xxx or i7-7xxx chip that is pin compatible with the motherboard, but that is entirely your responsibility and liability.

You can’t change the CPU, it’s soldered down.

Either get a faster computer (choose a CPU with very fast single-core performance, rather than one with many slower cores) or, IMHO, don’t choose pointless upsample values. All that upsampling to 768 kHz really does is create lots of zeroes. Pushing any possible filter distortion into inaudible areas is achieved even by 96 kHz.

The processor in a Nucleus is soldered to the motherboard, i.e., there is no socket, so it’s not possible to replace the processor. Moreover, it is unlikely that you’ll find a replacement motherboard for a Nucleus nowadays, since the product is no longer manufactured.

If you need a better processor, then the best bet is to buy a computer with the appropriate CPU, load Windows or Linux and setup RoonServer.

I do wonder if you are able to hear a difference at those sample rates. Personally I can’t tell 24/192 or DSD 64 apart. They sound the same to me.

But as folks mentioned. The CPU is soldered on, so can’t be replaced.

Thanks, and happy new year.
I have reduce the upsampling to 192khz and the processor has than mainly > 30x.
But I still have a delay between two tracks from 2 up to 20 sec. Doesn’t matter if the track comes from the local SSD in my Nucleus or if I stream it from Qobuz.
The DAC is connected via usb with my Nucleus. I have no idea where the delay is coming from.

That’s a different problem (not Nucleus performance) and it shouldn’t be like this. To get official support for this, open a support ticket by clicking here → Support. Then click the big Get Help button.
